ABAP Developer

Purpose

The ABAP Developer is responsible for the design, development, testing, documentation and support of custom developments and enhancements within the TNPA SAP environment, in accordance with agreed standards and the defined project scope. The role delivers reliable, high-quality technical solutions that meet TNPA’s business needs across its port operations.

The incumbent works from functional specifications provided by Business Analysts and functional consultants to build, unit-test and hand over developments, and provides peer review and support to the broader SAP team.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and document custom ABAP developments and enhancements from approved functional specifications.
• Develop reports (classical / ALV), interfaces, conversions, enhancements, forms (SAPscript / Smart Forms / Adobe Forms) and workflows (the RICEFW objects).
• Develop and consume integration objects – BAPIs, RFCs, IDocs, Proxies, OData / RESTful services – in support of SAP integration requirements.
• Apply modern SAP development techniques where relevant (Core Data Services (CDS) views, ABAP on HANA optimisation, Fiori / UI5 enhancements for S/4HANA).
• Perform unit testing and provide peer-review testing to other developers; support functional, integration and user-acceptance testing and defect resolution.
• Ensure that all developments adhere to SAP and TNPA coding, naming, performance and security standards.
• Create and maintain the technical documentation associated with each development.
• Manage developments through the transport landscape in conjunction with the SAP Basis team.
• Provide development support, enhancements and bug-fixes to the production environment as required.
• Ensure that system-governance requirements are met and accept that auditing and / or health checks on developments may be done at random at any time.

• Delivering performant custom code in a HANA-optimised landscape while maintaining backward compatibility.

• Meeting delivery timelines while adhering to coding, performance and security standards.

Decision Making

• Determine the technical design and construction approach for each development within agreed standards.
• Recommend enhancement techniques and reusable components.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and code-quality issues.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree / National Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline.
• SAP ABAP certification is advantageous.
• 3–5 years’ SAP ABAP development experience.
• Experience with ABAP on HANA, CDS views and / or SAP Fiori / UI5 is a strong advantage.

Skills Required

• Strong ABAP / ABAP OO development skills, including reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, forms and workflow (RICEFW).
• Experience with BAPIs, RFCs, IDocs, Proxies, Enhancement Framework, BAdIs, User Exits and OData services.
• Knowledge of SAP integration technologies (SAP PI / PO / Web Services).
• Understanding of SAP business processes and cross-module integration.
• Strong debugging, performance-tuning and problem-solving skills.
• Good documentation, communication and teamwork skills.

Pay: R30 000,00 - R180 000,00 per month
