Job Purpose
The purpose of the role is to ensure accurate, timely, and effective management of the organisation’s accounting and financial processes, while maintaining sound financial controls and supporting compliance with relevant statutory and organisational requirements. The Accountant ensures the timely and accurate execution of accounting processes, financial reporting, reconciliations, compliance requirements and the smooth execution of day-to-day financial operations. Key Performance Areas
Business Accountabilities
- Initiate approval of disbursements, ensuring that all payment requests and invoices are properly reviewed and supported by complete and accurate documentation.
- Ensure invoices submitted for payment are VAT compliant.
- Load payments on business online.
- Record accounting transactions accurately and timeously, ensuring that all cash disbursements and cash receipts are supported by complete and appropriate documentation.
- Prepare weekly cash balances.
- Prepare monthly general journals.
- Manage the debtors and creditors modules and all other related transactions.
- Generate expenditure reports and prepare reconciliations
- Request supplier statements, reconcile supplier accounts, and request credit refunds if required.
- Prepare and perform ageing analyses for accounts receivable, accounts payables and prepaid expenses monthly.
- Prepare invoices for donors and prepare s18A certificates for money received.
- Manage petty cash and maintain a record of all receipts and prepare the reconciliation.
- Assist in monthly accruals and fiscal year-end closing adjustments as necessary
- Assist with the preparation and coordination of the external audit, liaise with auditors as required, and respond to and resolve audit queries in a timely manner.
- Assist in preparing VAT 201 return submissions and VAT audits.
- Assist in preparing and submission of tax returns.
- Assist in opening new bank accounts, business online profile, updating signatories.
- Maintain, and update user profiles on the business online banking platform, including adjusting transaction limits as required, and attend to related ad hoc administrative requirements as necessary.
- Continuously identify opportunities for improvement and proactively address gaps within the area of responsibility.
- Liaise with other departments on all relevant finance related queries.
- Manage finance students who come into the Foundation for vacation work.
- Assist in any other departmental matters as and when required.
Education, Skills, and Experience
- BCom Accounting Qualification or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience
- Sage 300 experience
- Microsoft Office – especially Word and Excel (advanced)
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
- SARS E-filling
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong numerical skills
- Strong Accounting skills
- Integrity and honesty
- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Attention to detail
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Johannesburg, Gauteng: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
Education:
- Bachelors (Required)
Experience:
- Sage 300: 2 years (Required)
- Accounting: 2 years (Required)
