ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT VACANCY

Berea Technical College, a well-established, leading Private Education provider has an accounts assistant position available at its Durban Campus:

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with a company's financial records to ensure that they're properly maintained and classified. keep records of financial statements
  • Oversee proper maintenance and reporting of a company's financial statements
  • Tax reporting, inventory processing and program administration
  • Supervise tax payments, tax returns, maintains accounts
  • Deal with statistics and transactions
  • Determine how much money is owed to the company
  • Monitor and record cash flow
  • Verify the accuracy of all money transactions and make sure that all transactions are legal and follow current guidelines
  • Analyze profits and losses
  • Prepare profit and loss statements and monthly closing and cost accounting reports
  • Ensure that all financial reporting deadlines are met, internally and externally
  • Provide information to directors to evaluate the efficiency of the business
  • Prepare and review budgets, revenue, expenses, payroll entries, invoices, and other accounting documents
  • Analyze expenditure trends
  • Report to management regarding the finances of the College as a whole
  • Provide advice or recommendations on business operation, on appropriate budget levels, and ensure expenditure control
  • Advise management on issues such as resource utilization, tax strategies, and the assumptions underlying budget forecasts
  • Compare budgeted costs to actual costs
  • Provide strategic recommendations for specific financial problems or situations
  • Interact with internal and external auditors in completing audits
  • Coordinate the audit process by assisting with financial data preparation
  • Supervise the input and handling of financial data and reports for the company's automated financial systems
  • Explain billing invoices and accounting policies
  • Resolve accounting discrepancies or irregularities
  • Establish, maintain, and coordinate the implementation of internal accounting and accounting control procedures
  • Recommend, develop and maintain financial data bases, computer software systems, and manual filing systems
  • Liaise and work with external financial professionals
  • Collaborates with the other HOD’s of Finance to support overall department goals and objectives
  • Monitor and analyse the department’s work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Respond to inquiries from the Heads of the finance department regarding financial results, special reporting requests
  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department
  • May provide informal training to new and existing staff as needed
  • Delegation, guiding and reviewing of the work completed by the accounts payable clerk to ensure accurate financial transactions
  • Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc
  • Establish goals and objectives for the department that are in line with the broad goals and objectives of the college and monitor the progress to ensure attainment
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures
  • Seek advice from external Accounting professionals or consultants

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Minimum 3/4 years Accounting experience in medium business
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Exposure to policies and procedures of Tertiary institutions
  • Proficient in Desktop applications (Excel, Microsoft word and PowerPoint)
  • Other relevant trainings and certification
  • Must have good working knowledge of Accounting and Tax
