Job description
The Accountant Assistant supports the Accountant and finance team by performing daily bookkeeping, accounting, administrative, and clerical duties. The role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, assisting with statutory submissions, reconciling accounts, and supporting month-end and year-end financial processes. The Accountant Assistant ensures that all financial documentation is accurately recorded, organized, and maintained in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Accountant/Bookkeeper with daily accounting functions.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
- Perform bank reconciliations.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts.
- Prepare and process journal entries.
- Prepare VAT reconciliations and assist with VAT submissions.
- Prepare PAYE reconciliations and assist with PAYE submissions.
- Maintain and organize financial records and supporting documentation.
- Manage document filing systems, both electronic and physical.
- Assist with month-end and year-end accounting processes.
- Prepare supporting schedules, reports, and reconciliations as required.
- Assist with audit preparation and provide supporting documentation when requested.
- Ensure financial data is captured accurately and timeously.
- Communicate with suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders regarding financial matters when required.
Requirements :
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Diploma, Certificate, or Degree in Accounting, Finance, Bookkeeping, or a related field will be advantageous.
- 0 to 2 years' experience in an accounting, bookkeeping, or finance-related role.
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles, bookkeeping, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience with accounting software will be advantageous.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks effectively.
