Accountant

The Role

A well-established company based in Benoni is seeking an experienced Accountant to take responsibility for the full accounting function across multiple entities.

The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum Requirements

• Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Degree advantageous)
• Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar Accountant role
• Strong experience with Sage Evolution or Sage Pastel
• Solid understanding of VAT, PAYE, and SARS compliance requirements
• Experience preparing management accounts and monthly financial reporting
• Strong reconciliation and analytical skills
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting

• Capture and process financial transactions, including payroll journals, into the general ledger for multiple entities
• Post month-end journals, perform bank and cashbook reconciliations, and process payments
• Maintain fixed asset registers and accurate financial records
• Prepare monthly cash flow analyses, annual budgets, and variance reports
• Compile monthly management accounts and reconcile intercompany transactions
• Generate financial reports (Trial Balance, Income Statement, Balance Sheet, AR/AP Ledgers)
• Assist with external audits and provide supporting documentation

Taxation & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with VAT, PAYE, and all statutory tax obligations
• Prepare and submit tax returns to SARS
• Manage SARS audits, verifications, and related submissions
• Ensure timely payment of all tax obligations

Operations

• Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions
• Collaborate with the Debtors Controller to support effective collections
• Conduct and oversee stock takes and ensure accuracy of stock records and sub-ledgers
