General Reinsurance, Cape Town Branch (a subsidary of General Reinsurance AG) is offering an opportunity forAccountant in our Finance division.
Key Responsibilities
We are seeking a detail-oriented Financial Accounting Associate to support corporate finance and Life reinsurance accounting. The role captures approved transactions, maintains records and evidence, performs defined system processing and schedules, supports controlled regulatory and reporting uploads, and follows up routine queries.
Work is performed within agreed procedures and clearly defined responsibilities, with appropriate review. The role reports to the Finance Manager and supports both the Financial Accountant and Technical Accountant in their respective areas, while maintaining clear scope, accountability and review boundaries.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Capturing approved supplier and claim invoices and processing approved deposits, payments, bank entries, petty cash and foreign-currency entries
- Clearing paid invoices, handling routine creditor queries and monitoring the SA Finance inbox
- Supporting month-end processes through routine processing, system checks and assigned schedules
- Supporting approved IFRS 17-related processing and system updates within defined procedures
- Supporting routine Life reinsurance processing and related client accounting activities
- Supporting regulatory and management reporting processes, including preparation, upload and report distribution
- Collating statutory reporting and B-BBEE information for business units
- Collating audit evidence, supporting audit requests and process descriptions, preparing assigned Annual
- Financial Statement schedules and maintaining complete electronic and physical records
- Supporting new system testing and implementation activities when required
- Maintaining checklists, resolving routine differences, identifying recurring issues and escalating exceptions promptly
- Ad hoc requests as required
Qualifications & Experience
- Completed three-year Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in Accounting or Finance
- Preferably 1–3 years’ relevant accounting, finance operations or audit experience; strong graduates with practical training may be considered
- Sound double-entry, journal, accounts-payable, bank-processing, documentation and month-end-control knowledge
- Strong Excel skills are essential; SAP experience would be advantageous
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent numerical and analytical abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team and engage with stakeholders at all levels of the business
- Ability to work independently and use sound judgement
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively while remaining adaptable to changing work demands
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy
