Job Title: Accountant
Department: Finance
Reports To: Finance Manager
Job Summary
The Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial records for a number of entities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable regulations, and providing timely financial reports. The role includes an element of cost accounting, managing inventory accounting, inter-company billings as well as supporting management with monthly management accounts and financial analysis to guide business decisions for new ventures.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in accordance with IFRS.
- Process and reconcile invoices, payments, receipts, and bank statements.
- Prepare monthly management accounts including detailed variance analysis as well as annual financial statements.
- Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes which will include balance sheet (working capital items) and cash flows.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and resolve discrepancies.
- Manage and account for inventory/stock, including monthly stock reconciliations, costing, inventory counts and valuation.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and prepare VAT and other statutory returns.
- Assist with internal and external audits by providing relevant documentation.
- Analyse financial data to identify trends, variances, and improvement opportunities.
- Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules.
- Support the finance team with ad hoc projects and reporting requests including expansion of the business and the opening of new units
- Manage bookkeeping staff ensuring accuracy of monthly processing.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Professional certification (e.g., SAIPA, SAIBA, CIMA) preferred.
- 5–8 years of experience in accounting or finance roles, including inventory and and preparation of management accounts.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices (IFRS).
- Experience in inventory/stock accounting and valuation methods (FIFO, weighted average, etc.).
- Proficiency in accounting software (Sage Intacct or similar).
- Advanced MS Excel skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Ability to manage staff and ensure timelines are met.
