Accountant

We are seeking a highly skilled South African Accountant with strong Japanese language proficiency and proven experience preparing US financial statements . The successful candidate will support US-based clients and stakeholders by managing accounting functions, preparing financial reports, and communicating effectively in both English and Japanese.

This role is ideal for an accountant who thrives in an international environment and has experience working with US accounting standards and reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Accounting

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for US-based entities.
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations and maintain general ledger integrity.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
• Prepare and analyze management reports and financial statements.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis activities.
• Ensure compliance with US GAAP and company accounting policies.
• Assist with audit preparation and respond to auditor requests.
• Process journal entries, accruals, and intercompany transactions.
• Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.

Client & Stakeholder Communication

• Act as a liaison between English-speaking and Japanese-speaking stakeholders.
• Participate in client meetings and financial discussions conducted in Japanese.
• Translate financial information, reports, and accounting documentation where required.
• Prepare professional written correspondence in both Japanese and English.

Compliance & Controls

• Support regulatory and tax compliance requirements.
• Identify and recommend process improvements within accounting operations.
• Ensure adherence to internal controls and accounting best practices.

Minimum Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• SAICA articles completed will be advantageous.
• CA(SA), AGA(SA), CIMA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred.

Experience

• Minimum 3–5 years' experience preparing US financial statements.
• Proven experience working with US-based companies or accounting firms.
• Month-end close and financial reporting processes.
• Experience using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, Xero, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms.

Language Requirements (Mandatory)

• Fluent Japanese and English communication skills.
• Ability to speak, read, and write Japanese at a professional business level.
• Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly in Japanese and English.

Technical Skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Strong financial statement preparation expertise.
• Knowledge of US GAAP reporting requirements a bonus
• Experience with financial analysis and reporting tools.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
