Accountant

We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Accountant ready to transition into a Senior Accountant role within our finance team. The ideal candidate will have strong practical accounting experience, good knowledge of Sage Accounting, SARS eFiling and South African statutory requirements, and be comfortable working independently in a fast-paced operational environment.

The role offers an opportunity to develop into a broader Senior Accountant position while working alongside experienced Chartered Accountants.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure transactions are correctly captured on Sage.
• Prepare monthly bank, supplier, customer and general ledger reconciliations.
• Manage accounts payable and receivable, including creditor and debtor reconciliations.
• Prepare and submit VAT, PAYE and other SARS statutory returns through eFiling.
• Assist with monthly management accounts and financial reporting.
• Maintain fixed asset registers and supporting financial schedules.
• Assist with cash-flow monitoring, payment preparation and banking administration.
• Ensure compliance with SARS, CIPC and other applicable South African statutory requirements.
• Assist with payroll-related accounting and statutory reconciliations.
• Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for external auditors and tax practitioners.
• Monitor outstanding debtors and assist with collections and credit control.
• Maintain proper financial records, supporting documents and internal controls.
• Assist the Senior Accountant and management with financial analysis, reporting and other finance-related responsibilities.

Requirements

• Relevant qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Approximately 3–5 years' practical accounting experience.
• Strong working knowledge of Sage Accounting.
• Practical experience with SARS eFiling, VAT, PAYE and statutory submissions.
• Good understanding of South African accounting and tax requirements.
• Strong Excel skills.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
• Strong attention to detail and reconciliation/problem-solving skills.

Experience within transport/logistics, commodity trading, import/export, distribution, manufacturing or another operational business will be advantageous.
