Job description
1. POSITION DETAILS
Position Title: Accountant
Reports to: Senior Financial Accountant
Location: ENGIE Southern Africa: 3012A Winnie Mandela Drive
Bryanston, Sandton, Johannesburg South Africa
2. BACKGROUND
Xina Solar One is a 100MW Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plant using parabolic trough technology with approximately 5-hours of molten salt storage, located in the Northern Cape. It operates under a 20-year Build, Own and Operate (BOO) Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Eskom. Shareholders include IDC, GEPF, Xina Community Trust, and ENGIE.
3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The key responsibilities of the accountant will be, but not limited to, the following:
- Master data management:
- Maintain master data on Sunflow and Sun systems ERP
- (General/Accounting ledger, Fixed Asset MD, Chart of Accounts, currency, document types and other core attributes of accounting),
- Vendor setup and invoice processing in ERP
- Manage the finance master data processes
- Carry periodic reviews of the master data, in line with Data Standards set by the Senior Accountant
- General Accounting:
- Full Creditors Control function, reconciliations and payment submissions
- Attending to and resolving all queries related to Accounts payable and Debtors Control – Prepare customer invoices and statements, Support collections
- Cashbook processing and monthly reconciliations for all Bank Accounts held by the company
- Attending to general Banking KPI’s, e.g. KYC updates, Online banking queries, banking administration
- Manage forex transactions and obtain FSCA/SARB approvals
- Assist Head office team with Travel arrangements
- Responsible for processing all journal entries into relevant ledgers and submission to the Senior Accountant for review in a timely manner.
- Review and collaborate with the Senior Accountant on the Fixed Assets, calculations preparation of the decommission provision /impairments /Profit and loss.
- Capture and maintain the list of Monthly accruals to the GL and report to the Senior Accountant for review
- Review and track stock balances and report to the Senior Accountant
- On a monthly basis, process all relevant transactions in the general ledger with special note on overdue items and make appropriate disclosures to the Senior Accountant
- Process all intercompany transactions into the appropriate ledgers in a timely manner, maintenance entries are undertaken as required
- Responsible for ensuring timeous and accurate period-end close (month-end/ year-end)
- Ensure the integrity of the balance sheet by preparing monthly general ledger balance sheet reconciliations, investigate and report on financial discrepancies and overdue items.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant IFRS and Engie adopted accounting policies.
- Collaborate with the Senior Accountant to create, update and complete SOP’s process documents in line with ENGIE Group
- Support deadline management
- Execute escalation process to support effective service delivery
- Ensure adequate filing and maintenance of records
- Responsibility to ensure that audit requests are submitted on time and accurately
- Focus on recording, completeness and measurement of all transactions
- Ensure controls are adhered to and executed
- Stakeholder relations:
- Support the Senior Accountant in the completion and submission of all relevant Tax, statutory and regulatory returns performed by the accounting team.
- Assist with BEE compliance
- Support the ED team with preferential procurement documentation and IPP audits
4. COMMUNICATION AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Internal:
- CEO, CFO, Engie Finance, Technical, HR, IT, HSE, Procurement
External:
- SARS, NERSA, NTCSA, Auditors, Lenders, Contractors, Shareholders, Bankers, Eskom, Suppliers.
5. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Education
- BCom Degree in Accounting/Financial Management
- Qualified accountant with additional relevant qualifications
Language
- English: excellent communication skills spoken, written and verbal
IT
- Must have a high degree of skill in Business Computing Applications such as Word Processors, Spreadsheets, PowerPoint and Enterprise Resource Planning applications (Maximo/SAP or equivalent)
Experience
- At least 5 year experience in accounting
- Knowledge of both IFRS
- Knowledge of the main database platforms used - (SAP, MS Office)
- Used to working within a multi-cultural environment
- Knowledge SPVs within a multinational business environment
- Proven delegation skills and able to create a work climate where people are empowered to take action
- Excellent communication skills, capability to communicate clearly and concisely at all levels
- Ability to act independently to prioritize, initiate, resolve and complete actions required to take the business forward to meet goals
- Interaction with operations, maintenance, administration and HSE
