Job description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accountant Assistant to join our finance team. This role is ideal for someone looking to build a career in accounting and finance while gaining valuable hands-on experience in bookkeeping and financial administration.
The successful candidate will provide support to the Accountant and Finance Department by performing a variety of bookkeeping, reconciliations, and administrative duties to ensure the efficient operation of the finance function.
Key Responsibilities
As an Accountant Assistant, your duties will include but are not limited to:
- Managing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
- Performing Bank Reconciliations
- Reconciling Balance Sheet Accounts
- Preparing and submitting VAT Reconciliations and Returns
- Preparing and submitting PAYE Reconciliations and Returns
- Processing and maintaining Journal Entries
- Maintaining accurate financial records and supporting documentation
- Managing and organizing financial documents and filing systems
- Assisting with month-end and year-end financial processes
- Supporting the Accountant with daily bookkeeping and administrative tasks
- Liaising with suppliers, customers, and internal departments regarding financial queries
- Ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant financial regulations
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Diploma, Certificate, Associate Degree, or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Bookkeeping, or a related field.
- Minimum of 1–2 years' experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or a finance support role.
- Sound understanding of basic accounting principles and financial administration.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.
- Experience with accounting software and relevant bookkeeping certifications will be advantageous.
