About the Role

Skills Academy is seeking a driven, detail-oriented and student-focused Accounting Tutor to join our Academic Team. You will provide academic support, marking, student engagement and learning content across our accredited Accounting programmes, helping distance learning students qualify and move into bookkeeping, accounting and finance careers.
Programmes You Will Support
- Certificate: Accounting Technician (ID 73710) and FET Certificate: Accounting Technician (ID 77143) — NQF Levels 3–4 — AT(SA) / SAICA
- Certificate: Accounting (ID 80189) — NQF Level 5 — AT(SA) / SAICA
- Certificate and FET Certificate: Local Government Accounting (ID 59751 / 73712) — NQF Levels 3–4 — AT(SA) / SAICA
- ICB Financial Accounting programmes — Per programme — ICB
- NATED Financial Management and Accounting programmes, as allocated — NQF Levels N4–N6 — DHET
- Skills Academy provider Bookkeeping and Introductory Accounting courses — Provider level — Skills Academy
Subject allocation will be confirmed on appointment and may be adjusted as our accredited scope changes.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree, Advanced Diploma, BCom or Postgraduate Diploma (NQF Level 7) in Accounting, Financial Accounting, Financial Management or a closely related field.
- Working knowledge of SAGE and/or Pastel (essential).
- Foundational to intermediate South African tax knowledge.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Strong administrative, organisational and record-keeping skills.
- Computer literate — Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace, email, and online communication platforms.
- Willing and able to work with AI-assisted marking and content-creation tools (full training is provided).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A genuine passion for education and for learner success.
Advantageous
- Honours Degree (NQF Level 8), CA(SA), or membership of a recognised professional body such as AT(SA), SAIPA, SAIBA or CIMA.
- Assessor and/or Moderator certification.
- Previous tutoring, lecturing or facilitation experience, particularly in a distance or online learning environment.
- Practical bookkeeping, accounting or finance experience in the workplace.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Marking and Feedback
- Mark student assignments accurately and within agreed turnaround standards, using the AI marking bot and supporting tools provided.
- Provide comprehensive, constructive written feedback that tells each student exactly what was wrong, why, and how to correct it — including worked corrections where calculations are involved.
- Apply assessment criteria consistently and maintain accurate assessment records for internal moderation and accreditation purposes.
Student Engagement
- Call students to check on progress, motivate them, and follow up on outstanding assignments.
- Provide additional academic support to students flagged as at risk.
- Respond to student academic queries received by email within the same working day.
- Manage the interactive WhatsApp exam preparation groups for your subjects — post academic content at least three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday), answer student questions, and keep the group active and engaged.
Teaching and Learning Content
- Create teaching and learning resources: study notes, worked examples and solutions, exam preparationmaterial, short video tutorials and study group activities.
- Design and facilitate academic study groups and exam preparation sessions on whatsapp.
- Report errors or gaps in study material and work with the Publishing team on corrections and improvements.
Quality and Compliance
- Support internal assessment and quality assurance in line with AT(SA)/SAICA, ICB, DHET and Skills Academy requirements.
- Maintain the academic records required for accreditation audits and external verification visits.
Working Hours
Monday to Friday, 07:30 – 16:30. This is a full-time, office-based position at our Bellville South campus.
