Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas

The successful candidate will join a dynamic and supportive Faculty dedicated to teaching, research and community engagement, as well as to overall student development. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and willing to make a significant contribution to the development of the Faculty.

The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that educates students across academic units including Accounting, Economics, Industrial Psychology (Human Resources Management), Information Systems, Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS), Institute for Social Development, Political Studies, Management and Finance Clusters, School of Government (SOG) and the Academic Literacies Programme.

The School of Government seeks to appoint an Assistant Administrator to provide general student administration and academic administration support within the School. The incumbent will assist with student-facing administrative services, academic records, programme administration, assessment and marks processes, committee administration and general office coordination, to ensure alignment and compliance with central administrative systems, faculty requirements and institutional procedures.

Reporting to the Director of the SOG, the appointee will be responsible for assisting with:

  • Academic Administration;
  • Reception Duties;
  • Enquiry Management;
  • Marketing & Recruitment;
  • Meeting Administration;
  • Human Resources Administration;
  • General Administration (includes office administration, assisting with document management, liaising with service providers).

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric Certificate with at least 2 years administrative experience;
  • Proficiency in computer programmes/software packages e.g. Word; Excel / MS Office Suites / Power Point;

Added advantages:

  • Administrative experience in a Higher Education environment
  • Knowledge of student administration systems

Key Competencies:

  • Demonstrated communicative, organisational and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure, and to adhere to and meet strict deadlines;
  • Ability to work without supervision and to pay attention to detail.
