Job description
We are a small, family-run business operating from a home-based office environment. Our workplace is informal and relaxed, with a practical, down-to-earth working atmosphere. The office consists of a small team of four staff members who work closely together.
As this is a home office, the environment differs from a traditional corporate setting — it is comfortable, collaborative, and flexible. Friendly office dogs are part of the workspace, so applicants should be comfortable working around pets. Team members are expected to be self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work well within a close-knit team environment.
The role suits someone who is comfortable in a less formal setting while still maintaining professionalism and responsibility in their work. We are based in Kameeldrift-East, Pretoria.
The following areas of expertise are non-negotiable:
- Strong phone etiquette and communication skills
- Clerical skills for organising and maintaining files and records, with strong attention to detail
- Assist with filing, scanning, and organising documents (digital and physical)
- Provide general administrative assistance to management
- Answer and direct phone calls, emails, and messages
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook and Excel
- Preparing monthly statements and following up on debtors
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Prior experience in a similar role is preferred
- Ability to learn technical information quickly
- Bookkeeping experience (specifically using Xero Accounting)
- Schedule meetings and manage basic appointment bookings
- Prepare simple documents, reports, and correspondence
- Assist with general office administration
- Fluency in Afrikaans and English (due to the nature of our business, most of our clients are Afrikaans-speaking farmers)
- Any ad-hoc tasks that may arise
Education:
- High School (matric) (Required)
Experience:
- Administrative: 3 years (Preferred)
- Xero: 1 year (Required)
- Microsoft Excel: 2 years (Required)
Language:
- Afrikaans (Required)
- English (Required)
License/Certification:
- Driver's license (Required)
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate
- Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Good communication skills in English and Afrikaans (written and verbal)
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Willingness to learn and take instruction
- Must be an animal lover, as there are dogs on the premises
