The Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of the Western Cape is internationally recognised for its excellence in teaching and research. The Faculty comprises nine academic departments, a School of Pharmacy, and a number of world-class research institutes and Centres. The Faculty offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the major scientific disciplines and a professional degree in Pharmacy.
The School of Pharmacy at the University of the Western Cape is one of the leading institutions for the education of pharmacists in South Africa and the only pharmacy school in the Western Cape. The School offers the BPharm degree as well as structured and research-based Masters and PhD programmes and seeks to appoint a Departmental Administrator to assist with all Departmental administrative procedures, in order to ensure alignment and compliance with UWC and statuary administrative systems and procedures.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key responsibility areas:
- Academic, marks and student administration;
- Committee administration;
- Event/Venue and transport organisation;
- Financial and budget administration, procurement and reporting;
- General administration and reporting including office administration, document management, liaising with staff, students and service providers, etc.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 and a relevant three-year post-matric qualification with a minimum of two years administrative experience in a Higher Education environment;
- Experience using student marks administration and student administrative management systems;
- Experience in using university procurement and financial management systems;
- Proficiency in word processing and other productivity software (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with Google applications.
Required competencies:
- Communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate liaison with academics, students and service providers;
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and without supervision, and to adhere to and meet strict deadlines;
- Office management and record-keeping skills.
