POSITION: Air Quality Analyst
JOB GRADING: B – Upper
DEPARTMENT: Environmental Engineering
SITE: South Deep Gold Mine
The Air Quality Analyst is responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and managing air quality performance across the operation to ensure compliance with occupational hygiene legislation, company standards, and sustainability objectives. The incumbent will provide technical expertise in air quality management, emissions monitoring, dust control, occupational hygiene reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives to minimize occupational health impacts and support responsible mining practices.
Minimum Requirements:
Grade 12 or equivalent
Air Quality Analyst Certificate
Minimum 3–5 years' experience in, air quality monitoring, or occupational hygiene compliance within mining, industrial, or heavy manufacturing environments
Valid driver's license
Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

Key Competencies:
Proven track record in safety leadership
Strong inter and intra-team collaboration skills to ensure effective coordination with sampling issuers, supervisors, and operational teams
Ability to operate, calibrate, download, inspect, and maintain air quality monitoring equipment for dust, noise, Diesel Particulate Matter (DPM), and other pollutants as and when necessary
Sound understanding of the processes and methodologies utilized to ensure compliance to the DMPR guideline in terms of a Monitoring Programme for Airborne Pollutants
High attention to detail, good planning and organising ability, and adaptability to changing sampling priorities and operational conditions
Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) for capturing, compiling, and reporting environmental monitoring data accurately and timeously
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure monitoring activities are conducted in accordance with Occupational Hygiene Mandatory Codes of Practice (MCOPs), company standards, and applicable legislative requirements
Conduct routine laboratory and field equipment inspections to ensure all air quality monitoring instruments are clean, calibrated, and operational in line with sampling standards and procedures
Prepare, assemble, and issue sampling equipment and sampling kits for airborne pollutants (gases, vapours and particulates), and noise, in accordance with the approved sampling schedule
Perform pre-sampling setup activities, including filter preparation, weighing, flow rate checks, and instrument configuration to ensure readiness for use
Assist in identifying and coordinating sampling personnel in line with the sampling plan, in collaboration with lamproom and operational teams
Assist with post-sampling processes, including verifying documentation, dismantling equipment, and preparing samples for laboratory analysis
Download, capture, and interpret monitoring data from gravimetric sampling pumps, noise dosimeters, ensuring accuracy and completeness of records
Maintain occupational hygiene monitoring records, sampling data, and databases, and compile reports as required
Support occupational hygiene assessments, investigations, and improvement initiatives by providing accurate monitoring data, technical assistance, and administrative supports
