As part of our continued growth, we are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Imports Controller to join our Joburg-based operations team.
Position Overview
We are seeking an Imports Controller with 3-5years' experience in Airfreight imports or freight forwarding. This role is ideal for someone who has a solid understanding of import operations and is looking to further develop their career in a fast-paced logistics environment. The successful candidate will work closely with our operations team, overseas offices, airlines, agents, and customers to ensure the efficient handling of import shipments from origin through to final delivery.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to:
· Coordinating and monitoring airfreight import shipments from origin to destination.
· Processing pre-alerts and ensuring all shipment documentation is complete and accurate.
· Liaising with overseas agents, airlines, clients, and service providers regarding shipment status and requirements.
· Capturing shipment information accurately within the operational system.
· Preparing shipment costings and assisting with invoicing.
· Following up on shipment milestones and proactively communicating delays or issues.
· Resolving operational queries efficiently and professionally.
· Ensuring compliance with company procedures and import regulations.
· Supporting the operations team with general import administration and reporting.
· Providing excellent customer service through timely communication and problem-solving.
Minimum Requirements (Non-Negotiable)
· Applicants must meet the following criteria:
· Minimum 3–5 years' hands-on experience in airfreight imports or freight forwarding.
· Own Transport.
· Strong geographical and trade lane knowledge.
· Good understanding of airfreight import procedures and Incoterms.
· Proficiency in airfreight operating systems and the Microsoft Office Suite.
· Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced logistics environment.
· High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
· A proactive attitude with the willingness to learn and grow within the organisation.
