Job description
Apprentice Diesel Mechanic
Location: Western Cape, South Africa
CHE Electrical Engineering (Pty) Ltd, an established Electrical and Mechanical Engineering company operating throughout the Western Cape, is seeking a qualified and experienced Apprentice Diesel Mechanic to join our growing team.
Minimum Requirements
- N3 Diesel Mechanic qualification (minimum requirement)
- Progress towards a Trade Test or Red Seal qualification will be advantageous
- 1–2 years' practical experience working on diesel engines or diesel generators will be advantageous
- Basic understanding of diesel engines, generator systems, and mechanical maintenance
- Willingness to learn fault-finding, diagnostics, servicing, and repair techniques
- Valid Code B driver's licence (Code C1/Code 10 will be advantageous)
- Physically fit and medically capable of working on industrial and construction sites
- Good communication and reporting skills
- Basic computer literacy
- Ability to work both independently and within a team
- Must have a clear criminal record
- Must reside within the Western Cape
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist senior technicians with the servicing and maintenance of diesel generators
- Assist with fault finding, diagnostics, repairs, and emergency breakdowns
- Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections
- Assist with the installation and commissioning of generators and associated equipment
- Participate in load bank testing and operational testing
- Complete job cards, inspection reports, and maintenance documentation accurately
- Ensure tools, equipment, and work areas are kept clean and safe
- Comply with Occupational Health and Safety requirements and company procedures
- Attend standby duties and overtime when required under the supervision of senior technicians
- Continuously develop technical knowledge and practical skills
Salary
- Salary is market-related and will be based on qualifications, experience, and technical competency.

Working Conditions:
- Monday to Friday
- Overtime and standby duties may be required
- Market-related salary based on qualifications and experience
- Immediate availability will be advantageous
