Job description

Magma Security & Investigations invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced employees for the position of Area Supervisor, based at the Magma office in Himeville. The company seeks a disciplined, operationally capable and proactive leader who can supervise frontline security services, maintain strong client relationships, coordinate technical support and contribute actively to the growth of Magma’s presence throughout Himeville and Underberg.

1. Key responsibilities

  • Armed response, guarding and crime prevention
  • Command, control and supervise armed response operations, guarding sites and deployed personnel within the area of responsibility.
  • Ensure that response teams, security officers, vehicles, firearms, communication equipment and other operational resources remain serviceable and deployment ready.
  • Conduct regular site visits, inspections, parades and performance checks to ensure compliance with post instructions, standard operating procedures and client requirements.
  • Monitor response times, patrol activities and service delivery standards, and implement corrective measures where shortcomings are identified.
  • Assist with duty rosters, shift changes, absenteeism, leave arrangements and operational relief requirements.
  • Work closely with the NUD Emergency Command Centre, Magma Control Room, SAPS, emergency services, community safety structures and other authorised stakeholders.
  • Support crime prevention initiatives, joint operations and intelligence led deployments within the area.
  • Respond to serious incidents and provide appropriate operational leadership at the scene until relieved by senior management or the relevant authorities.
  • Ensure that incidents, complaints, arrests and operational activities are accurately recorded, reported and escalated within prescribed timeframes.
  • Conduct first level incident investigations, preserve relevant information and evidence, obtain preliminary statements where required, and submit complete reports and recommendations to the Investigations Manager, Col Mlangeni.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and integrity of all client, employee, operational and investigative information.

Client service and stakeholder management

  • Conduct formal monthly meetings with clients to review service delivery, operational risks, incidents, response performance and outstanding matters.
  • Maintain regular contact with clients and ensure that complaints, service requests and operational concerns are acknowledged and resolved promptly.
  • Conduct or assist with site surveys and security risk assessments and submit recommendations for improved security measures.
  • Ensure that services comply with contractual requirements, approved deployment plans, post instructions and company standards.
  • Build professional working relationships with clients, prospective clients, community representatives, SAPS and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Represent Magma Security & Investigations professionally at meetings, community forums and operational engagements.

Technical services and alarm support

  • Coordinate requests for alarm installations, system upgrades, maintenance, fault resolution and technical support.
  • Facilitate new service requests between clients and the Technical Manager in Camperdown.
  • Maintain an accurate register of technical faults, service requests, installations and outstanding work.
  • Follow up on technical assignments to ensure completion within agreed timeframes and appropriate client feedback.
  • Confirm that completed technical work has been tested, documented and accepted by the client where applicable.
  • Identify opportunities for new alarm, monitoring and related security services.

Cash transportation

  • Coordinate and oversee authorised cash transportation from clients to approved banking institutions in accordance with company procedures, risk assessments and applicable legal and insurance requirements.
  • Ensure that every cash movement is properly authorised, planned, recorded and supported by the required personnel, equipment and security measures.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding collection times, routes, client information and operational arrangements.
  • Report and investigate any irregularity, security concern, attempted interference or deviation from approved procedures immediately.
  • Ensure that cash transportation duties are not undertaken unless all prescribed operational and safety requirements have been met.

Business development and community relationships

  • Research and pursue new business opportunities in Himeville, Underberg and surrounding areas.
  • Promote Magma Security & Investigations and its guarding, armed response, alarm, monitoring and rural safety services.
  • Identify prospective clients and arrange introductions, site assessments and follow up engagements.
  • Develop a sound understanding of local security concerns, competitor activity and community needs.
  • Maintain an accurate record of business development activities, prospects, referrals and outcomes.
  • Support management with information required for proposals, quotations and client presentations.
  • Promote client retention through responsive service, professional conduct and regular engagement.
  • Contribute to agreed growth, service delivery and client retention objectives for the area.

Personnel management and discipline

  • Provide visible leadership and ensure that employees are properly supervised, briefed and supported.
  • Ensure that employees are correctly registered, trained, equipped, uniformed and fit for duty.
  • Monitor attendance, punctuality, appearance, conduct and performance.
  • Address misconduct, poor performance and non compliance promptly in accordance with company procedures and applicable labour requirements.
  • Identify training and development needs and refer recommendations to the Area Manager and relevant departments.
  • Conduct operational briefings and ensure that employees understand site instructions, emergency procedures and company policies.
  • Promote a professional, disciplined and safety conscious working environment.
  • Immediately report suspected criminal conduct, dishonesty, substance abuse, firearm irregularities or serious breaches of company policy.

Vehicles, firearms and company resources

  • Inspect company vehicles at least weekly and maintain accurate inspection, mileage, fuel and defect records.
  • Ensure vehicles are clean, roadworthy, appropriately equipped and used only for authorised company purposes.
  • Monitor fuel consumption, kilometres travelled and vehicle usage to prevent misuse and control costs.
  • Report accidents, damage, mechanical defects and traffic infringements immediately.
  • Safeguard all company assets, including vehicles, firearms, ammunition, radios, uniforms, keys, access devices and technical equipment.
  • Ensure that firearms and ammunition are issued, carried, stored and accounted for strictly in accordance with company procedures and applicable legislation.
  • Immediately report any loss, theft, misuse or unauthorised possession of company property.

Administration, reporting and office management

  • Submit accurate daily, weekly and monthly operational reports as required.
  • Maintain organised records of incidents, inspections, client meetings, complaints, technical requests, vehicle checks and business development activities.
  • Ensure that post instructions, company policies, emergency procedures and operational directives are current and available to relevant employees.
  • Communicate company policies and instructions to employees and obtain signed acknowledgements where required.
  • Maintain a clean, secure and orderly office and ensure that the company presents a consistently professional image.
  • Assist with audits, investigations, disciplinary processes and operational reviews when required.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties related to the position as instructed by the Area Manager or senior management.
