Job description

THMM is launching a structured Artist Development Programme designed to develop emerging and developing artists from foundation level through vocal development, artist identity, performance readiness, professional packaging and career preparation.

We are looking for an organised, emotionally intelligent and people-focused Artist Development Programme Manager to manage the overall development journey of artists enrolled in the programme.

About the Role

The Artist Development Programme Manager will act as the central link between each artist, the Vocal Coach, Music Director, Administration team and THMM leadership.

This is not primarily a technical music role.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that every artist has a clear development plan, measurable goals, documented progress and a structured pathway through the THMM Artist Development Programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage artists through the THMM Artist Development Programme.
  • Participate in artist intake and initial assessments.
  • Create and maintain Individual Development Plans for each artist.
  • Conduct structured artist-development sessions.
  • Support artists with confidence, identity, discipline, professionalism and career direction.
  • Coordinate development between the Vocal Coach and Music Director.
  • Monitor artist attendance, participation, assignments and progress.
  • Review Vocal Coach and Music Director feedback.
  • Prepare monthly artist progress reports.
  • Coordinate quarterly progression assessments.
  • Identify artists requiring additional intervention or support.
  • Coordinate Stage Readiness assessments.
  • Assist in preparing suitable artists for Market Ready status.
  • Maintain clear and accurate programme records.
  • Communicate professionally with artists and relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Escalate significant concerns to THMM leadership.
  • Support programme workshops, reviews and development activities.

Music-industry experience is advantageous but is not an absolute requirement.

Minimum Requirements

  • Relevant experience in people development, programme management, coaching, mentoring, education or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good administrative and organisational ability.
  • Ability to manage multiple artist development plans simultaneously.
  • Professional judgement and discretion.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Advantageous

  • Experience working with emerging artists.
  • Music or entertainment industry exposure.
  • Coaching or counselling background.
  • Workshop facilitation experience.
  • Artist-management experience.
  • Programme or project-management experience.

How the Role Fits into THMM

At THMM:

The Vocal Coach develops the voice.

The Music Director develops the music and performance.

The Artist Development Programme Manager manages and develops the overall artist journey.

The successful candidate must therefore be comfortable working collaboratively rather than operating in isolation.

Reporting Line

Reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The Handler Music Management.

Works closely with:

  • Music Director;
  • Lead Vocal Coach;
  • Administration Coordinator;
  • Marketing & PR;
  • THMM leadership.

This is a permanent part-time appointment based on 4 working hours per day, 5 days per week.

Pay: From R12 000,00 per month

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Cape Town, Western Cape
