1. BACKGROUND

Vivo Group (Pty) Ltd is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Assessment Instrument Moderator to moderate assessment instruments developed for the Occupational Certificate: Imaam, SAQA ID 103264, NQF Level 5, 455 Credits.

The appointed Moderator will provide independent and professional moderation of the assessment instruments and associated documentation to ensure that the instruments meet the required quality, occupational and assessment standards.

The engagement will be for an estimated 18-month period.

2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The appointed Assessment Instrument Moderator will be responsible for:

  • Moderating assessment instruments developed for the Occupational Certificate: Imaam.
  • Reviewing assessment instruments for validity, reliability, fairness and fitness for purpose.
  • Assessing alignment between assessment instruments and the requirements of the occupational qualification.
  • Reviewing assessment instruments against applicable OQSF principles and requirements.
  • Identifying gaps, inconsistencies, weaknesses and areas requiring improvement.
  • Providing detailed moderation feedback and recommendations.
  • Participating in moderation and technical review sessions.
  • Reviewing amendments made to assessment instruments following moderation.
  • Confirming whether identified issues have been appropriately addressed.
  • Preparing relevant moderation reports and supporting documentation.
  • Ensuring that assessment instruments are appropriate to the Islamic sector and the occupational context of an Imaam.
  • Working collaboratively with the assessment instrument developers and project team.
  • Meeting agreed project milestones and deadlines throughout the 18-month contract period.

3. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate must have:

  • A minimum NQF Level 6 qualification or higher in Islamic Studies or a related field.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of Islamic Studies and the Islamic sector.
  • Recognition within the Islamic sector as a qualified Aalim.

4. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

The candidate must have:

  • At least 2 years' experience in moderating assessment instruments/tools.
  • Previous experience in assessment instrument moderation within the Islamic sector or a related field.
  • Experience with the development and/or implementation of occupational qualifications.
  • Understanding of the Occupational Qualifications Sub-Framework (OQSF).
  • Facilitation knowledge and experience in Islamic Studies or a related field.
  • At least 2 years' experience in Islamic Studies.
  • Demonstrable experience in reviewing assessment instruments for quality, validity, reliability and alignment.

5. MANDATORY SUPPORTING EVIDENCE

Applicants must be able to provide:

  • Updated CV.
  • Certified/proof of NQF Level 6 qualification or higher in Islamic Studies or related field.
  • Proof of recognition by the Islamic sector as a qualified Aalim, such as an award, certificate or recognition certificate.
  • Two reference letters confirming previous assessment instrument moderation work within the Islamic sector or related field.
  • Details of at least two contactable references.
  • Evidence of at least 2 years' relevant moderation experience.
  • Evidence of facilitation experience in Islamic Studies or a related field.

6. KEY COMPETENCIES

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong knowledge of Islamic Studies.
  • Strong understanding of the role and occupational context of an Imaam.
  • Strong assessment moderation expertise.
  • Knowledge of assessment principles and practices.
  • Understanding of occupational qualifications and the OQSF.
  • Ability to critically evaluate assessment instruments.
  • Strong analytical and report-writing skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to provide constructive technical feedback.
  • Ability to work independently and objectively.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines.
