Position Title

Asset Improvement Lead

Location

Namakwa Sands (Northern and Southern Operations)

Position Overview

The Asset Improvement Lead will take accountability for the development of physical asset strategies and reliability programs for Namakwa Sands, including engineering policies, strategies, and standards. This position will support the operation of the various plants in a safe and environmentally responsible manner in compliance with relevant policies and standards. This position covers both Northern and Southern Operations, so the incumbent will be required to travel between operations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage the Asset Improvement Engineers to ensure departmental output is successfully achieved.
  • Develop, review, and update the Physical Asset Management (PAM) policy and strategy.
  • Develop the long-term Reliability Strategy with inputs from Maintenance Reliability resources.
  • Develop, review and update CA/RCM/FMEA strategies for physical assets.
  • Develop, review and update engineering standards, operating procedures, and guidelines.
  • Support statutory compliance with engineering standards.
  • Provide engineering-related training (RWM, RCFA, RCM, etc.) where applicable.
  • Develop, review and update Asset Integrity Programs and Standards, Asset Integrity Registers, including the development of Asset Integrity Plans for specific assets and asset classes.
  • Ensure and oversee Life Cycle Planning & Cost Analysis for identified critical plant assets.
  • Support Operations with the structural integrity management programs of plant structures.
  • Provide technical support for Operations in response to plant and production requirements.
  • Provide input into the risk assessment and management processes to ensure programs/projects are adequately assessed and address insurability issues.
  • Review designs and operational changes to the plants to ensure that safety and plant operations will not be adversely impacted.
  • Provide input into the 5-Year MR capital budget, take accountability for the RECO budgets and management of assigned MR projects.
  • Assist the project groups by providing asset management inputs on major capital projects
  • Coordinate asset management audits to ensure compliance and continuous improvement of asset management processes and associated activities
  • Coordinate and manage critical asset optimization studies.
  • Provide asset management information system and asset data analysis support for efficiency improvements, and asset management optimization
  • Provide support to organizational strategies (newTRON, SAP S/4HANA, BCCS, Asset Integrity, Sustainability, Safety, etc.).
  • Regularly review and identify resources required to make change projects successful and makes regular adjustments, finding ways to make new ideas and systems work more effective.

Qualifications

  • Minimum B. Degree (Mechanical/Electrical), NQF Level 7 (Mandatory)
  • Physical Asset Management Certification (Added Advantage)
  • Professionally Registered with ECSA (Added Advantage)
  • Government Certificate of Competency (Added Advantage)
  • Driver’s license (Mandatory)

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant Management experience within a heavy industrial or mining environment
  • Minimum of 10 years’ relevant Asset Management experience in a heavy industrial or mining environment
  • Asset Life Cycle Management, Planning & Costing
  • Developing and Optimizing Maintenance Policies, Standards and Strategies
  • Physical Asset Management (Routine Work Management, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems, Reliability Centred Maintenance, Asset Inventory Management, etc.)
  • Reliability Engineering (Root Cause Failure Analysis, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Equipment Criticality Analysis, etc.)
  • Asset Integrity and Risk Management
  • Asset Replacement Strategies (Capital Planning & Budgeting)
  • Asset Management Reviews and Auditing
  • Asset Management Information Systems
  • Critical Asset Optimization Studies
  • Project Management

Knowledge & Skills

  • Excellent knowledge of the Asset Management Standard (ISO 55000)
  • Good knowledge and skills of Asset Life Cycle Management and the associated processes and activities
  • Good knowledge of engineering disciplines (civil, mechanical, electrical, etc.) and associated standards
  • Excellent planning, organizational, performance management skills
  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and communication skills
  • Excellent financial, report writing, stakeholder and change management skills
  • Sound understanding of statistics and data analysis techniques
  • Root cause analysis skills
