Job description
ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT
Duties
Liaising with the branch manager, branch accountant, operational manager, colleagues, department manager, auditors
· Coding of information received from branch for processing
· Processing of journals · Checking processing done either at branch level or at Tray
· Ensuring that all supporting documents are received
· Ensuring that all supporting documents are filed once received
· Importing and Exporting of CAB files · General ledger checking
· Ensuring journals reconcile · Ensuring matching is balanced
· Producing Management reports on a timely basis
· Completing chrono statement reconciliations for revenue and expenses, to discuss with the branch and operational manager any discrepancies found
· Completing turnover comparisons with CGOPC figures and investigating any discrepancies found
· Reconciling balance sheet accounts and making sure that balances are justified · Generating and maintaining balance sheet files
· Processing of the VAT declaration forms and reconciling the VAT and to identify any corrections needed on the next declaration
· Processing of WHT certificates · Controlling and reconciling WHT accounts
· Identifying problem areas, bringing it to the attention of management, investigating and resolving problems
· Matching of accounts · Reaching department and group deadlines
· To perform any other reasonable duties that Tray or Management may require that are consistent with the broad nature of the job.
· To perform as a Team Member and ensuring constant and proactive communication.
· To perform as a Team Member and ensuring constant reaching of deadlines.

Summary
As the accountant you need to always be reliable, accurate and consistent in your job and decision making. All figures should be double checked to ensure accuracy and reliability. Reports should be analysed, general ledger checked and attention should be brought to any peculiar items. Problem items should be investigated immediately and resolved. Group policy should be maintained at all times and reports presented as per the group specification.
