Assistant Accountant

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The position is responsible for the verification, reconciliation and sorting of accounting data to a summarised level for management perusal timeously and correctly.

KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1) General Ledger

• Make accurate accruals and provisions as required in accordance with company policies and procedures monthly.
• Prepare and process monthly journals, provisions and reallocations.
• Accurately reconcile Balance Sheet accounts.
• Review and scrutinize monthly expenses and prepare provisions and reallocations as neede

2) Statutory returns

• Reconcile, prepare and submit monthly VAT, Import VAT, Withholding Tax and Payroll Returns (any statutory returns).
• Attend to any audits and enquiries from Revenue officials as needed.
• Ensure all legal requirements are met when submitting statutory returns, including valid VAT invoices and credit notes are obtained.

3) Debtors

• Ensure timeous collection of debtors.
• Accurate payment and cost allocations.
• Credit application processing, vetting and opening of new accounts.
• Recalculation of Trading terms and processing of Credit notes for Settlement discounts, rebates and promotional discounts.
• Ensure control and management of age analysis.
• Ensure good customer interaction with regards to queries, proof of deliveries, claims and general correspondence.
• Manage credit limits of customers on approved limits according to company policies and procedures.
• Compiling and submission of management/other reports as required.
• Ensure timeous communication regarding outstanding payments

4) Creditors

• Completing credit applications and opening new vendors.
• Reconciliation of expense accounts.
• Capture supplier invoices.
• Reconciliation of creditors before payment.
• Reconciliation traffic fines.
• Reconciliation and processing of fleet and credit cards.
• Reconciliation of expense accounts.

5) General

• Intercompany balancing for all companies. Assist with resolving of differences.
• Assist with checking of pricing for customers and pricing calculations.
• Complete and submit Statistics SA returns.
• Review financial information.
• Assist with Budgeting and Forecasting.
• Assist with customer profitability.
• Any ad-hoc functions

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION

• Grade 12 (NQF4) with a relevant Diploma in Accounting
• At least five (5) years relevant working experience - this includes debtors, creditors and general ledger

experience.

• Working experience within a FMCG environment will be advantageous
• Experience in working on SAGE 300 will be an added advantage
• South African citizen
• Proficient in the Microsoft office suite
• Proficient in English (written & spoken)
• Valid SA Driver’s License
