Job Purpose

The Assistant Manager will support the overall management of the restaurant and lounge by ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, excellent customer service, effective staff supervision, and compliance with company standards, policies, and legal requirements. The role requires a hands-on leader with strong hospitality experience and solid management capability.

Key Responsibilities

Operations Management

• Assist in overseeing daily restaurant and lounge operations to ensure efficiency and high service standards.
• Ensure opening and closing procedures are correctly followed.
• Monitor food and beverage quality, presentation, and service levels.
• Handle customer queries, complaints, and feedback professionally and timeously.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, hygiene, and liquor regulations.

Staff Management

• Supervise, motivate, and support staff on shift.
• Assist with staff scheduling, timekeeping, and attendance control.
• Conduct on-the-job training and coaching to improve performance and service delivery.
• Enforce discipline in line with company policies and labour legislation.
• Support performance management and assist with disciplinary processes when required.

Financial & Administrative Duties

• Assist with daily cash-ups, stock counts, and variance investigations.
• Monitor stock levels, place orders, and control wastage and shrinkage.
• Use the GAAP Unity system for sales, stock control, reporting, and staff management.
• Assist with analysing sales performance and implementing improvement strategies.
• Ensure accurate record-keeping and reporting.

Customer Experience

• Create a welcoming and professional environment for all guests.
• Ensure consistent service standards across all shifts.
• Drive customer satisfaction, repeat business, and brand reputation.

Minimum Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years’ management experience in the hospitality industry (restaurant and/or lounge environment).
• Relevant hospitality qualification (certificate, diploma, or degree).
• Proven experience working with the GAAP Unity system.
• Strong knowledge of restaurant and bar operations.
• Good understanding of South African labour legislation and basic HR practices.
• Solid financial acumen, including cash handling and stock control.
