About the Role
As an Assistant Manager, you will support the Store Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the store and ensuring the delivery of exceptional customer service. You will play a key role in leading the team, driving operational excellence, and ensuring high standards across productivity, quality, hygiene, and customer experience.
This role is suited to a hands-on leader with strong operational knowledge, people management skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced retail or QSR environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Store Operations
- Assist in managing daily store operations in line with company policies and procedures
- Monitor and control store costs, ensuring budgets are adhered to
- Manage controllable costs, including food and labour, against set budgets
- Identify and address gaps highlighted through store audits
- Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly checklists and reports are completed and submitted on time
- Report maintenance and repair issues to the Regional Manager timeously
- Execute sales promotions and support revenue growth initiatives
- Manage stock levels through accurate ordering, receiving, rotation, and stock-take processes
- Investigate and address stock variances
- Ensure correct portion control standards are consistently applied
- Maintain strict adherence to cash handling procedures, including float management and banking
Training & Development
- Ensure store staff are trained and competent in their assigned roles
- Implement and maintain correct in-store training procedures
- Conduct training for new and existing staff
- Identify development needs and address these through ongoing training
- Deliver new menu training within the store
- Act as custodian of in-store training and operational materials
- Identify customer service gaps and address these through targeted training
Staff Management
- Create and maintain a positive and productive working environment
- Lead, coach, motivate, and support the store team
- Conduct regular team meetings to communicate information and gather feedback
- Assist with recruitment and interviewing of store staff in line with company and HR processes
- Plan and manage staff schedules and allocate duties effectively
Requirements:
- Grade 12 (Matric) – essential
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in a supervisory or assistant management role within retail, QSR, or hospitality
- Strong operational and people management skills
- Sound understanding of cost control, stock management, and cash handling
- Ability to train, coach, and develop staff
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Ability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
