Job Purpose
The Assistant Operational Finance Manager supports the Operational Finance Manager in the accurate financial capturing, preparation, and reporting of the operational company (OPCO) and other smaller entities within the group as and when required. The role provides hands-on capturing, reconciliation, and reporting support, helping maintain financial integrity, compliance, and timely, accurate management accounts, balance sheets, and audit deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Finance, Financial Accounting, Reporting and Control
- Assist with bookkeeping, journal processing, and financial administration for relevant smaller entities and OPCO.
- Prepare VAT submissions and assist with managing all SARS-related verifications or audits where required.
- Assist in preparing the Opco income statement and balance sheet, including resolution of queries and adjustments.
- Assist the Operational Finance Manager in finalising the Opco balance sheet ahead of submission to Exco.
- Prepare payment reconciliations and or review payment batches where necessary.
- Assist in preparation and management of utility schedules for the Body Corporates.
- Support the Operational Finance Manager with ad hoc financial tasks and operational requirements.
Audit, Compliance and Governance
- Assist the Operational Finance Manager in preparing and submitting audit packs.
- Support resolution of audit queries within agreed timelines, as directed by the Operational Finance Manager.
- Comply with financial policies, internal controls, and statutory requirements across all entities.
Rent Roll and Lease Management
- Assist in managing hotel rent rolls and tracking owner-related financial agreements.
- Support the drafting, updating, and execution of lease agreements for onboarding, extensions, and renewals.
- Provide monthly reporting inputs on lease status, expiry dates, and renewal actions.
- Act as a point of contact for owner queries relating to agreements, payments, and lease terms.
- Maintain tracker of complimentary room nights as per lease agreements, and ensure proper tracking of unit handovers at the various hotels.
Operational Support
- Provide ongoing support to the Operational Finance Manager across operational requirements.
- Assist with onboarding and administrative support within the Operations Financial team.
- Perform additional duties as required from time to time.
Qualifications and Experience
- BCom Accounting or equivalent accounting qualification.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel and strong computer literacy.
- 1 to 3 years experience in an Assistant Financial Manager, Senior Financial Accountant, or similar finance role.
- Exposure to multi-entity reporting, management accounts, and audit processes advantageous.
- Hospitality, property, or investment structure experience advantageous.
Skills and Competencies
- Solid financial accounting background across GL, reporting, VAT, journals, and reconciliations.
- Working understanding of audit processes, financial controls, and compliance requirements.
- Strong Excel capability (intermediate to advanced), including financial modelling and analysis.
- High attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and deadline ownership.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and reporting cycles under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; a proactive, solution-driven approach.
