Job description
The Assistant Stock Controller will be handling the physical movement, organization, and placement of stock. This role ensures that shelves are correctly stocked, R1 and R2 remain orderly, and all products are stored in the right place to enable fast, accurate fulfilment. They are the hands-on backbone of the inventory workflow.
1. Supports Stock Movement from R1 to R2
- Moves stock only after it has been verified and logged in MNGR
- Assists in physically transferring stock from quarantine (R1) to verified zone (R2)
- Handles stock with care to avoid breakage or spoilage
→ Result: A smooth and disciplined stock flow that keeps the store efficient and accurate.
2. Maintains Shelf Organisation
- Ensures stock is placed on R2 shelves neatly, clearly, and batch-separated
- Keeps FIFO/FEFO principles in place at all times
- Prepares shelves so that pickers can work quickly and with no confusion
→ Result: Pickers move faster, and mistakes are minimised.
3. Restocks the Store Shelves
- Transfers approved stock from R2 to in-store shelves using replenishment slip
- Ensures old stock is brought forward and new stock is placed behind (FIFO/FEFO)
- Communicates with the Store Manager if shelves are full, blocked, or inaccessible
→ Result: Store shelves are always stocked correctly, cleanly, and ready for fulfillment.
4. Supports Stock Controller with Cleanliness and Inventory
- Keeps R1 and R2 zones clean, organised, and easy to navigate
- Helps with basic expiry checks and shelf sweeps
- Restocks packaging areas and assists with tidying the storage environment
5. Communicates Clearly with the Team
- Confirms with the Stock Controller before moving any unbatched stock
- Notifies relevant staff of any missing stock, blocked shelves, or space constraints
- Works closely with pickers and packers to ensure the flow of goods is uninterrupted
→ Result: A reliable team member who helps the store run efficiently.
Daily Tasks
Stock Movement & Organization
- Move stock from R1 to R2 only after approval from Stock Controller
- Place products neatly in R2 by batch and category
- Restock in-store shelves from R2 (only approved stock)
- Follow FIFO/FEFO when shelving (oldest stock in front)
- Open boxes and display product if needed
- Remove all boxes from store to box collection area
Cleanliness & Maintenance
- Keep R1, R2, and surrounding areas clean and clear
- Organise empty crates, trolleys, or packing supplies
- Help with expiry date checks or flag items that look old or damaged
Shelf Readiness
- Ensure in-store shelves are not overcrowded & stock is assigned accurately
- Report blocked, dirty, or broken shelving to Store Manager
- Communicate if stock can’t be shelved due to space issues
Weekly Tasks
- Deep clean R1 and R2 areas (wipe shelves, clean floors, remove clutter)
- Assist Stock Controller with reorganising shelf layouts if needed
- Support cycle counts (physically matching items to system records)
- Refill and organise packaging and stock areas
- Raise recurring physical issues (overflow, tight space, broken equipment)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: R5 000,00 - R6 000,00 per month
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Cape Town, Western Cape: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
