Job summary

We are looking for a full-time, permanent Assistant Technician to support our lead technician in repairing and servicing commercial steam and pressing equipment, including steam presses, industrial steam irons and garment steamers. This is a technical, supervised, hands-on role based near Ndabeni, Cape Town.

Responsibilities

• Assist with equipment inspections, disassembly and reassembly under supervision
• Perform routine cleaning and descaling of boilers, reservoirs, steam holes and hoses
• Prepare tools and parts for service jobs
• Assist with stock picking, identification and stock counts of spare parts and equipment
• Identify basic faults using manufacturer troubleshooting guides (no power, no steam, weak pressure, leaks)
• Read and apply wiring diagrams and service manuals
• Follow all safety procedures, including power disconnection and cool-down periods before working on hot or pressurised components
• Keep the workshop and equipment organised

Working conditions

Workshop-based, with occasional site visits. The work is mostly electrical fault-finding and repair, and also involves heat and steam.

Requirements

• NQF Level 4 qualification as an Electromechanician, Electrician, Millwright or equivalent electrical/mechanical trade
• Internship/practical component completed
• Valid driver's license (essential)
• Verifiable references (e.g. internship host employer or training provider)
• Ability to read wiring diagrams and follow structured service procedures
• Comfortable using basic hand tools
• Reliable, punctual, and committed to working safely

Advantageous

• Forklift license
• Basic knowledge of stock picking, stock identification and stock counts

What we offer

• Permanent, full-time position
• Remuneration from R12,500 per month (cost to company), based on experience and qualification
• Working hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:30
• 3-minute walk from Ndabeni train station
