ASSOCIATE RESEARCHER

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct molecular biology experiments, including DNA/RNA/protein extraction, PCR, qPCR, cloning, and sequencing.
• Maintain cell cultures and perform transfections, protein expression, and related assays.
• Oversee laboratory operations and ensure adherence to safety protocols, ethical standards, and institutional regulations.
• Participate in experimental planning and resolve technical issues with guidance.
• Collect, analyse, and interpret data using appropriate statistical and bioinformatics tools.
• Prepare laboratory reports, maintain accurate records, and contribute to manuscripts or presentations.
• Support collaborative projects by coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Honours degree (or currently studying or completing a Master’s degree) in Molecular and Cell Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry.
• Hands-on experience with core molecular biology techniques (PCR, cloning, sequencing, gel electrophoresis, etc.).
• Experience in specialised techniques such as Real Time PCR applications, 2D/3D cell culture models
• Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and statistical analysis software is advantageous.
• HPCSA accreditation would be an advantage, but not a necessity.

• Work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Express a clear interest in translational research, specifically regarding the application of molecular biology in clinical or population health studies.
• Strong organisational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Excellent communication skills for documenting results and collaborating with team members.
