Skyy Aviation Academy is looking for an experienced healthcare professional to join our training team and complete a structured development programme towards becoming an Aviation Medicine Trainer.

The successful candidate will be based primarily at our  Durban branch  but will also be required to travel to Cape Town to deliver scheduled training at our  Cape Town branch .

This opportunity would suit a registered nurse, paramedic or emergency-care professional who is passionate about teaching and developing young adults for careers in aviation.

Key responsibilities

• Complete the required AVMED trainer-development programme.
• Present theoretical and practical aviation medicine training at our Durban and Cape Town branches.
• Prepare lesson plans, presentations and practical activities.
• Conduct assessments and examinations.
• Maintain accurate, SACAA-compliant training records.
• Monitor student performance and provide constructive support.
• Maintain the required professional and instructor currency.
• Assist with recurrent and other academy training requirements.

Minimum requirements

• A recognised nursing, paramedic or emergency-care qualification.
• Current registration and good standing with the SANC or HPCSA.
• Ideally three to five years’ relevant clinical, emergency-care or pre-hospital experience.
• Sound knowledge of first aid, CPR, AED use, oxygen administration and emergency response.
• Strong presentation, communication and classroom-management skills.
• The ability to explain medical information clearly and practically.
• Excellent attention to detail, administration and time management.
• Computer literacy and the ability to maintain accurate records.
• Reliable transport.
• Willingness and ability to travel to Cape Town for scheduled training blocks.
• Previous teaching, facilitation or aviation experience would be advantageous.

Important information about the position

This is a specialised, long-term development opportunity and not a short-term freelance position.

The successful candidate must be prepared to:

• Complete a development process that may take approximately 8–12 months.
• Participate in supervised teaching, observations, assessments and continuous development.
• Present training in intensive blocks of approximately five to seven consecutive weekdays.
• Travel between Durban and Cape Town when scheduled.
• Spend several consecutive days away from Durban when presenting training at the Cape Town branch.
• Work approximately 08:00–16:30 during training, with additional preparation and administration when required.
• Facilitate classroom-based and practical training for groups of up to approximately 24 students.
• Meet strict regulatory, assessment and recordkeeping requirements.
• Enter into a reasonable training and retention agreement, as the academy will invest substantial time and resources in the candidate’s development.
