About the Role

As an Aviation Security Officer (AVSEC), you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of passengers, staff, and aviation facilities. Your primary focus will be on conducting security screenings, monitoring activities, and enforcing regulations within airport environments. You will be part of a dedicated team committed to maintaining high security standards in line with industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough security screenings of passengers, baggage, and cargo to identify prohibited items.
• Monitor and respond to security incidents or alarms, coordinating with law enforcement and emergency services as necessary.
• Perform regular surveillance and patrol of airport facilities to ensure the safety of passengers and staff.
• Enforce compliance with security regulations and procedures in accordance with the Civil Aviation Authority guidelines.
• Prepare detailed reports on security incidents, violations, and daily security operations.
• Provide assistance and information to passengers regarding security protocols and airport procedures.
• Collaborate with other airport personnel to enhance security measures and address potential threats.
• Attend training sessions to stay updated on security trends and regulatory changes relevant to the aviation industry.

Requirements

• South African citizenship or permanent residency.
• Valid Aviation Security Officer certificate or equivalent recognized qualification.
• Proven experience in a security role, preferably within an airport or aviation environment.
• Strong understanding of aviation security regulations and procedures.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse groups.
• Demonstrable problem-solving skills and the capacity to act decisively under pressure.
• Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification in First Aid or Emergency Response.
• Experience with security technology, such as X-ray machines and metal detectors.
• Additional languages spoken other than English will be an asset.
• Familiarity with crisis management and incident response protocols.
