Job description
Role Purpose
The Backup Systems Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day administration, monitoring, maintenance and continuous improvement of Lesaka Technologies’ enterprise backup and recovery environment. The role ensures business-critical systems and data remain recoverable, disaster recovery requirements are met, and backup controls remain compliant with internal policies and audit requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Backup Platform Administration
- Own and administer the enterprise backup environment end to end.
- Administer and maintain the Veeam Backup & Replication platform.
- Maintain backup configuration standards, job scheduling and platform documentation.
Monitoring & Recovery
- Monitor daily backup jobs and investigate failures promptly.
- Perform backup restores and respond to recovery requests from the business.
- Maintain accurate logs of restore activity and outcomes.
Retention, Storage & Disaster Recovery
- Manage retention policies, offsite backups and storage capacity planning.
- Perform disaster recovery testing on a scheduled basis and maintain up-to-date DR documentation.
- Identify and escalate capacity or recoverability risks before they impact the business.
Compliance & Audit Support
- Support SOX ITGC evidence collection and respond to audit requests relating to backup controls.
- Maintain documentation that demonstrates backup and restore controls are operating effectively.
- Assist in remediating audit findings relating to backup and recovery processes.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Identify automation opportunities to reduce manual effort and improve reliability.
- Collaborate with Infrastructure, Risk & Compliance and Cyber Security teams on shared controls and improvement initiatives.
- Provide guidance and handover documentation to support backup cover arrangements.
Minimum Qualifications
- A relevant IT or Computer Science diploma or degree, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- Veeam certification (VMCA / VMCE) or equivalent is advantageous.
- Infrastructure or storage-related vendor certifications are advantageous.
Experience Required
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience administering enterprise backup and recovery platforms.
- Hands-on experience with Veeam Backup & Replication or a similar enterprise backup solution.
- Experience supporting disaster recovery testing and documentation.
- Experience working in a regulated or highly controlled environment is advantageous, ideally financial services, fintech, banking or payments.
- Exposure to SOX, ITGC or similar control-based audit environments is advantageous.
Technical Competencies
- Strong working knowledge of Veeam Backup & Replication administration.
- Understanding of backup retention, offsite/replication strategies and storage capacity management.
- Practical experience with disaster recovery testing methodology.
- Understanding of server, virtualisation and storage infrastructure as it relates to backup design.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve backup job failures efficiently.
- Ability to compile clear, accurate audit evidence and control documentation.

- Methodical and detail-oriented, particularly when investigating failures or preparing audit evidence.

- Willing to support and document processes so cover arrangements remain effective.
