Billing Assistant

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Billing Assistant to support the accurate and timely processing of customer billing activities. This role is suited to someone who enjoys working with high volumes of transactions, has strong reconciliation skills, and is comfortable engaging with both internal stakeholders and customers. The successful candidate will form part of the finance team and will play an important role in maintaining accurate billing records, resolving billing queries, and supporting efficient billing operations.

Salary & Benefits

The budgeted salary for this role is between 18,000 - 20,000 ZAR monthly, depending on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, process and review customer invoices accurately and in line with agreed billing schedules.
  • Support recurring, project-based and usage-based billing activities where applicable.
  • Perform billing reconciliations and investigate variances or discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate billing records, customer account information and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with resolving billing-related queries from internal stakeholders and customers in a professional and timely manner.
  • Work closely with finance, operations, sales and customer-facing teams to ensure billing data is complete and accurate.
  • Process high volumes of billing transactions while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Support month-end billing activities, reporting and administrative tasks as required.
  • Escalate complex billing issues to the Billing Manager and assist with follow-up actions.
  • Contribute to process improvements and help maintain effective billing controls.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar billing, accounts receivable, finance or invoicing role.
  • Strong reconciliation skills and confidence working with billing data, account balances and transaction records.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies.
  • Comfortable handling high volumes of transactions in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Confident communicator who can engage professionally with wider internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general finance or billing systems.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
  • Exposure to recurring billing, project billing and usage-based billing models.
