About the Role
Cape Boiler & Heater Company is seeking an experienced Boiler Technician to join our service and installations team.
This position is suited to a technically competent individual who can work independently, diagnose faults efficiently, and maintain a high standard of workmanship when working on industrial heating equipment and associated control systems.
The successful candidate will be involved in the installation, commissioning, servicing, maintenance, fault finding, and repair of industrial boilers, burners, hot water systems, thermal oil heaters, and associated equipment.
We are looking for someone who can step into the role with minimal supervision and add immediate value to the business and our clients.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Commissioning
- Install and commission boilers, burners, hot water systems, thermal oil heaters, pumps, control panels, and associated equipment.
- Perform electrical and control system wiring in accordance with applicable standards.
- Verify correct operation of equipment prior to handover.
- Assist with plant upgrades and retrofit projects.
Maintenance & Fault Finding
- Perform preventative maintenance on boilers, burners, and associated systems.
- Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, and control-related faults.
- Troubleshoot burner management systems, control panels, motors, sensors, pumps, valves, and instrumentation.
- Identify root causes of failures and implement corrective actions.
Service & Client Support
- Conduct routine service inspections and breakdown callouts.
- Complete service reports accurately and professionally.
- Communicate effectively with clients regarding technical findings and recommendations.
- Maintain a professional standard when representing the company on site.
Quality & Safety
- Ensure all work is completed safely and to a high standard.
- Follow company procedures and site safety requirements.
- Maintain company tools, test equipment, and vehicles.
- Take ownership of workmanship and quality control.
Minimum Requirements
- Qualified Electrician with three-phase experience or Qualified Millwright.
- Post-trade experience in an industrial environment.
- Strong electrical fault-finding ability.
- Experience working on motors, control panels, VSDs, contactors, sensors, instrumentation, and industrial control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Highly Advantageous Experience
- Industrial boilers and steam systems.
- Gas, diesel, heavy fuel oil, or dual-fuel burners.
- Burner management systems and combustion controls.
- Thermal oil heaters.
- Hot water systems.
- PLC fault finding.
- Industrial pumps and process equipment.
- AutoFlame, Siemens, Riello, Ecoflam, Weishaupt, Limpsfield, or similar combustion systems.
- Steam, condensate, fuel, gas, and process heating systems.
