Boilermaker

Our client, an established steel manufacturing company based in Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal, is looking for an experienced Boilermaker to join its new plant maintenance team. The role involves fabricating, repairing and maintaining steel structures and plant components in a heavy industrial setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Fabricate, repair and install steel structures, plate work, chutes, hoppers, ducting and platforms.
• Carry out planned and breakdown repairs on plant equipment and structures.
• Mark off, cut, roll, bend and form plate and structural steel to specification.
• Weld using a range of processes (e.g. SMAW, GMAW, FCAW) on carbon and wear-resistant steels.
• Repair and hard-face worn components such as liners, rollers and chutes.
• Read and interpret fabrication drawings, isometrics and welding symbols.
• Operate cutting and forming equipment, including gas cutting, plasma, rolling machines and presses.
• Inspect welds and fabrications for quality and accuracy.
• Follow hot work permits, confined space, working at heights and PPE procedures.
• Complete job cards and maintenance records accurately.
• Work with fitters and other trades during shutdowns and major repairs.
• Be available for shift work, standby and emergency call-outs.

Requirements

• Trade Tested / Red Seal Boilermaker.
• Minimum 3–5 years' post-trade experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Experience in steel, foundry, heavy engineering or a similar heavy industrial environment is strongly preferred.
• Coded welding certification is advantageous.
• Strong drawing interpretation and marking-off skills.
• Working at heights and confined space certification is advantageous.
• Good understanding of the OHS Act and hot work safety practices.
• Willingness to work shifts, overtime, standby and weekends.
• Valid driver's licence, clear criminal record and ability to pass a medical assessment.
