Job description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform structural steel fabrication, welding, and repairs on conveyor systems and related structures
- Work on conveyor tables, backbones, cross braces, fish plates, and structural components during moves and extensions
- Execute high-quality welding using appropriate processes (SMAW, FCAW, etc.) in accordance with specifications
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication details, and work instructions accurately
- Support conveyor structure moves and extensions with structural and welding tasks
- Perform lockout/isolation procedures and work safely at height when required
- Work closely with Millwrights, Artisan Aids, and the Supervisor to complete tasks efficiently and to high standards
- Participate in night-shift operations during critical activities (e.g., S-curve travel during CV10 Move)
- Conduct quality checks on completed work and ensure compliance with specifications
- Comply with all mine health and safety standards, including red permit area and gas area protocols
REQUIREMENTS
- Qualified Boilermaker or Plater Welder with a valid Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal or equivalent)
- Minimum 3–5 years post-qualification experience in mining, heavy industrial, or structural steel environments
- Proven experience in structural fabrication, welding, and repairs on large-scale equipment or conveyor systems
- Valid driver’s licence
- Ability and willingness to work shifts, including night shifts during critical project phases
- Excellent safety record and thorough understanding of mine health and safety standards (MHSA)
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and work to tight tolerances
- Good communication and teamwork skills
ADVANTAGEOUS
- Previous experience on conveyor moves, extensions, or major mining shutdown/maintenance projects
- Working at heights and confined space entry certificates
