Boilermaker/Welder

CHE Electrical Engineering (Pty) Ltd is looking for a skilled and experienced Boilermaker Welder to join our team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for fabrication, welding, fitting, installation, maintenance and repair work on structural and mechanical equipment across our projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform welding, fabrication, fitting, cutting, grinding and assembly of steel structures and components.
• Interpret engineering drawings, sketches and specifications.
• Fabricate and repair structural steelwork, brackets, supports, frames, platforms, guards, chutes and other components.
• Perform MIG, TIG and Arc welding as required.
• Carry out gas cutting, heating and other hot-work activities safely.
• Measure, mark, cut, drill, bend, fit and assemble materials accurately.
• Conduct maintenance, repairs and modifications to mechanical equipment and structures.
• Assist with planned maintenance, breakdowns and project/shutdown activities.
• Inspect completed work for quality, dimensions, alignment and weld integrity.
• Use welding machines, grinders, drills, gas-cutting equipment, hand tools and power tools safely.
• Identify defects and report equipment or structural problems to the relevant supervisor.
• Complete work according to job cards, drawings, method statements and project specifications.
• Maintain good housekeeping and ensure tools and equipment are kept in a safe working condition.
• Comply with all CHE and client health and safety requirements.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-task inspections and risk assessments before starting work.
• Comply with applicable Occupational Health and Safety requirements and site procedures.
• Follow hot-work, welding and gas-cutting safety procedures.
• Use the required PPE at all times.
• Ensure appropriate fire-prevention and fire-fighting measures are in place during hot work.
• Report hazards, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions.
• Stop work and report any unsafe condition that may place personnel, equipment or the environment at risk.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

• Grade 12 / Matric.
• Recognised Boilermaker qualification.

Trade Qualification:

• Red Seal Boilermaker Trade Certificate or recognised equivalent.
• Relevant welding certification will be advantageous.

Experience:

• 3–5 years' relevant experience as a Boilermaker/Welder.
• Experience in fabrication, welding and mechanical maintenance.
• Ability to work from engineering drawings and specifications.
• Industrial, construction, engineering or mining experience will be advantageous.

Skills Required

• Strong welding and fabrication skills.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings.
• Good knowledge of steel fabrication and fitting.
• Competent with welding equipment, grinders and power tools.
• Knowledge of hot-work and gas-cutting procedures.
• Good understanding of workplace health and safety.
• Good attention to detail and quality workmanship.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines
