About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to join a busy finance environment on a temporary contract starting as soon as possible.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys keeping financial records accurate, reconciling accounts and making sure transactions are processed correctly and on time. You will work closely with finance colleagues, stores, suppliers and internal teams, helping to keep day-to-day finance operations running smoothly.

The environment is fast-paced and transaction-heavy, so this role will suit someone who is organised, comfortable working with numbers and confident taking ownership of routine finance processes.

Responsibilities

• Process day-to-day financial transactions accurately and within required deadlines
• Capture journals and standard accounting entries
• Allocate transactions correctly to the relevant general ledger accounts and cost centres
• Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
• Complete reconciliations for petty cash, own-use accounts, fuel accounts and support office accounts
• Investigate and resolve reconciling items promptly
• Check that supporting documentation is complete, accurate and compliant
• Maintain organised finance filing and record-keeping systems
• Assist with month-end preparation and supporting schedules
• Prepare reconciliations and reports for review by accountants and finance management
• Follow internal finance policies, controls and approval procedures
• Identify discrepancies or unusual transactions and escalate them where required
• Assist with audit requests by providing documentation and reconciliations
• Liaise with stores, suppliers and internal departments to resolve finance queries
• Support improvements to finance administration and day-to-day processes

Requirements

• Certificate, Diploma or relevant qualification in Bookkeeping, Accounting or Finance
• 2 to 4 years of bookkeeping or finance administration experience
• Solid experience with reconciliations and transaction processing
• Experience with Kerridge
• Good understanding of basic accounting principles
• Strong numerical ability and attention to detail
• Confident working with Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
• Able to manage deadlines and routine processes accurately
• Good organisational and administrative skills
• Clear and professional communication skills
• Clear criminal and credit checks are essential

Experience within retail, FMCG, shared services, store finance, cashbook processing or another high-volume transactional environment would be advantageous.
