Job description

Bookkeeper

Cape Town, South Africa Full-Time | On-Site

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Cape Town Collective (CTC) offers serviced office spaces in Cape Town. Built on professionalism, paired with a flat, informal culture. No unnecessary meetings, performance theatre or egos.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a hands-on bookkeeping role for someone who's comfortable owning the full financial picture of a subscription-based, high-transaction-volume business. You'll manage the ledger, reconcile high-volume automated payments, keep on top of deferred revenue, and make sure our books reflect the real state of the business at any given moment.

IS IT FOR ME?

  • Experienced with cloud accounting platforms like Xero or QuickBooks Online
  • Comfortable reconciling high-volume automated payments through gateways like Stripe, PayGate or Peach Payments
  • Confident with accrual accounting, particularly deferred revenue, prepayments, upfront annual memberships and security deposits
  • Background in a "subscription + variable add-ons" business, co-working, hotels, gyms, storage, or similar
  • Solid grasp of VAT and indirect tax rules around commercial property rentals, parking and shared amenities
  • Comfortable managing high volumes of small accounts receivable and chasing late payments without damaging community relationships
  • Self-directed, dependable, and comfortable operating without close oversight

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Maintain the ledger and reconcile accounts across our cloud accounting platform
  • Sync workspace management software (OfficeRnD, or similar PropTech platforms) with the ledger
  • Manage deferred revenue, including prepayments, annual memberships and security deposits
  • Reconcile high-volume, automated credit card and debit collections
  • Run credit control on a high volume of member accounts, chasing late payments while protecting community relationships
  • Stay on top of VAT and indirect tax compliance relevant to commercial property, parking and shared amenities

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?

  • A flat, non-corporate environment with no micromanagement
  • Real autonomy to own outcomes, not just tasks
  • Direct exposure to the financial operations of a growing serviced-office business
  • A team that values initiative: if you see something that needs fixing, fix it

OUR CULTURE

We're not corporate. No unnecessary meetings, performance theatre or egos, just people who take ownership and follow through. If you see something that needs fixing, fix it. If you have a strong idea, bring it. If you don't know something, ask.
