Bookkeeper – Food Manufacturing & Distribution
Location: Westlake, Southern Suburbs, Cape Town
Office based.
Employment Type: Full-time
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Bookkeeper to join our food manufacturing business, supplying leading food retailers, wholesalers and distributors.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing day-to-day accounting transactions and supporting the wider commercial and management team with reliable financial information.
This is an important role in a growing manufacturing environment, requiring someone who is organised, detail-oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced business.
The ideal candidate will have experience of analysing and processing statements for the big food retailers, especially The Shoprite Group, Woolworths, PnP, Massmart and others.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting transactions.
- Process and reconcile supplier invoices, customer invoices, payments and receipts.
- Perform regular bank, supplier and customer reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate accounts payable and accounts receivable records.
- Monitor customer accounts and assist with credit control and collections.
- Prepare VAT and other statutory information for submission.
- Assist with monthly management accounts and financial reporting.
- Maintain accurate records of company expenses and payments.
- Assist with stock and inventory accounting and reconciliation where required.
- Prepare information and schedules for external accountants and auditors.
- Ensure financial records are complete, accurate and up to date.
- Assist management with ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting.
What We Are Looking For
- Proven experience as a Bookkeeper, preferably within manufacturing, FMCG or a related environment.
- Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and accounting processes.
- Experience and understanding of customer rebates and other invoice deductions.
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations..
- Good skills and experience with Excel, Xero and inventory management software.
- Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
- Well organised, dependable and able to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently while supporting a small management team.
- Good communication skills and a practical, hands-on approach.
Advantageous
Experience in a food manufacturing, FMCG, retail or distribution environment, particularly where the business manages significant stock volumes and supplies major retailers.
