Job Description:
We are seeking a highly organized, accurate, and experienced Bookkeeper to join our team in Durban. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day bookkeeping and financial administration of the business, maintaining accurate financial records, processing accounting transactions, and assisting with financial reporting.
The ideal candidate must have hands-on experience with Pastel Accounting Software, strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform full bookkeeping functions and maintain accurate financial records.
- Process bookkeeping entries through to Trial Balance and assist with month-end and year-end accounting procedures.
- Process and record journal entries and accounting transactions using Pastel Accounting Software.
- Prepare and maintain monthly management accounts and financial reports.
- Prepare weekly debtors reports and monitor outstanding customer accounts.
- Perform bank reconciliations and ensure all transactions are accurately recorded.
- Manage Debtors and Creditors functions.
- Generate customer quotations and invoices.
- Receive, verify, capture, and process supplier invoices using Pastel Accounting Software.
- Follow up on outstanding customer payments and ensure accounts are settled timeously.
- Manage the client and service-provider invoicing process efficiently and accurately.
- Handle and reconcile Petty Cash and maintain supporting documentation.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure all accounts are balanced and up to date.
- Assist with VAT returns, PAYE, UIF, EMP501 submissions, tax-related requirements, and reconciliations.
- Maintain and update company tax and registration documentation, ensuring all required certificates and registrations remain valid and up to date.
- Assist with obtaining and maintaining tax clearance certificates and other relevant compliance documentation.
- Liaise with external auditors during annual audits and assist with financial reporting requirements.
- Maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive business, banking, and financial information.
- Prepare and issue Purchase Orders to suppliers.
- Ensure all financial and administrative documentation is arcuately captured, properly filed and maintained.
- Provide general financial and administrative support to the company Directors/Shareholders as and when required.
- Ensure all bookkeeping and financial processing is completed accurately and timeously.
Requirements:
- Minimum 4 years' experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or a related finance environment.
- Minimum 3 year practical experience using Pastel Accounting Software — NON-NEGOTIABLE.
- Relevant qualification, diploma, or degree in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Finance, or a related field will be advantageous.
- Strong working knowledge of bookkeeping principles and accounting procedures.
- Experience with financial statements, journal entries, reconciliations, Debtors, Creditors, VAT, PAYE, and EMP501.
- Practical experience with invoicing, supplier processing, banking, and financial administration.
- Good knowledge of relevant accounting, tax, and regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Clear and consistent communication
Pastel Experience – NON-NEGOTIABLE
Please note: Candidates without practical Pastel Accounting Software experience will not be considered for this position.
