Brand and Marketing Assistant

We’re hiring: Brand Assistant (Social + Admin)

Johannesburg | Hybrid | Entry position

I’m looking for someone to work closely with a founder on building a new premium lifestyle brand in the homeware space. This is not a corporate role. It’s hands-on, creative and evolving in real time.

About the brand

Penny Lane is a South African lifestyle brand built on a simple idea: The modern pace of life leaves little room for presence. We exist to restore it. We believe a life well lived is cultivated through the relationships we nurture, the spaces we care for and the objects we live with. Our focus is on ritual, gathering and intentional living expressed through thoughtfully curated, locally sourced pieces. We work closely with South African designers and makers, celebrating what is local, considered and built to last. This is a brand about taste, restraint and meaning.

Role Description

You’ll be working closely with the founder across two key areas:

1. Social media & content

Helping shape and maintain a strong, consistent brand presence with a clear aesthetic and point of view

2. Admin & coordination

Supporting the day-to-day running of the business behind the scenes. You won’t be expected to “know everything” but you will be expected to care deeply about how things feel, look and come together.

What matters most

This role is for someone with a strong creative instinct, not just someone who can post content

but someone who understands:

• composition
• mood
• visual consistency
• brand energy

You should have a genuine interest in premium / luxury / considered brands and an intuitive sense of what makes something feel elevated. You also need to be energetic, detail-oriented and willing to assist on the admin side of the business.

You might be a good fit if you:

• Have a natural eye for design and detail
• Are drawn to premium, minimal or lifestyle-led brands
• Enjoy creating and curating content
• Are organised and proactive
• Want to learn how a brand is actually built

A degree in marketing, branding, design or business is ideal but not required. No formal experience is required, but show us what you’ve done, for example:

• your own social media
• a small business you’ve helped
• a logo, moodboard or brand idea
• anything that reflects your taste

Experience with Canva is a plus

What you’ll be doing:

• Planning and posting content (with guidance and approvals)
• Coming up with simple, on-brand content ideas
• Maintaining a consistent and considered feed
• Assisting with admin and coordination
• Supporting the founder across different areas of the business
