About the role
Acorn Broadband is a fixed-wireless internet provider serving homes and businesses across the Garden Route. We're looking for a hands-on, reliable Broadband Installation Technician to install, maintain, and support our wireless network and customer connections in the field.
This is a practical, customer-facing role for someone who's comfortable working at heights, good with their hands, and able to solve connectivity problems on the spot. You'll be the face of Acorn in people's homes and at their businesses, so professionalism and a tidy job matter as much as technical skill.
Key responsibilities
- Install customer premises equipment (CPE) — mounting antennas/radios, aligning to the nearest tower or base station, and achieving a stable line-of-sight link
- Run and terminate cabling neatly, configure routers, and confirm the customer is online before leaving site
- Carry out site surveys and line-of-sight assessments for new connections
- Diagnose and repair connectivity faults — signal, hardware, cabling, and configuration issues
- Assist with maintenance and upkeep of base station / tower equipment
- Keep accurate records of installations, faults, and stock used
- Represent Acorn professionally on every job — clean work, clear communication, and respect for the customer's property
- Manage your daily route efficiently across Garden Route towns
Requirements
Essential
- Matric (Grade 12)
- Valid driver's licence (Code B / 08) with a clean record
- Comfortable and safe working at heights — ladders, rooftops, and masts
- Basic networking knowledge: IP addressing, routers, PoE, Wi-Fi
- Physically fit and able to handle outdoor, manual work in all weather
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Good spoken English and Afrikaans
Advantageous
- Experience installing fixed-wireless / WISP equipment (e.g. Mikrotik, Ubiquiti/UISP, Mimosa)
- RF / wireless link alignment experience
- A relevant technical qualification (N-level, networking, or electrical/electronic)
- Familiarity with the Garden Route area and its terrain
