Building & Maintenance Manager

The Haven Night Shelter Organisation (www.haven.org.za), a non –governmental organisation working to help the homeless back to a home, family, and community, require a dynamic Building & Maintenance Manager to assist in overseeing the safety and maintenance of designated shelter buildings and vehicles and ensuring that these shelters are in compliance with all applicable regulations. The Building & Maintenance Manager will be based at the Head Office, 2 Napier Street, Cape Town.

Minimum Requirements:

• Degree in Facilities Management or building accredited certificate, or any relevant qualification.
• Three years’ building management or technical or similar work experience.
• Experience in the NGO sector will be an advantage.
• Code 08 driver’s licence (non-negotiable).
• Ability to work well with people as a team.
• Computer literacy – MS Outlook, MS Word and Excel.
• Ability to work under minimal supervision.
• Being prepared to work outside normal working hours.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships.
• Ability to manage conflict situations.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinating and overseeing regular building maintenance and repairs of buildings and vehicles.
• Contracting professionals for repairs as needed and overseeing contractors and inspecting completed jobs.
• Preparing and carrying out emergency protocols and procedures to ensure a health and safe environment.
• Undertake regular building inspections, complete reports, and initiate/progress any required works.
• Preparing and monitoring maintenance budgets.
• Negotiating and liaising with third-party service providers
• Ensuring facilities are in compliance with applicable policies, regulations, and building codes.
• Implement and manage a planned maintenance schedule.
• Implements all maintenance and general procurement of materials and parts, schedules installations and oversees that such repairs are accomplished in a safe and timely manner.
