Missiion

The Business Development Manager — Dredging, is a commercial and technical role responsible for driving revenue growth across IPR’s entire dredging product line: the SlurrySucker and hydro-mining applications.

The role spans all South African and Sub-Saharan Africa regions.

The successful candidate will be a self-driven, technically credible commercial leader who

can identify and convert dredging opportunities across mining, water utility, municipal, and

industrial segments — building long-term client relationships while growing market share in a largely uncontested product niche.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Sales

Identify, qualify, and convert new dredging opportunities across all target segments:

mine pollution dams, process dams, acid mine drainage, treatment plants, wastewater treatment works, tailings reprocessing operations, river and stormwater infrastructure, and industrial facility ponds.

Develop and manage a structured sales pipeline covering both rental and outright purchase of dredging equipment.

Prepare and present technically accurate, client-specific proposals, quotations, and tender submissions.

Achieve quarterly and annual revenue targets for the dredging product line.

Negotiate contract terms, rental rates, and service agreements in line with company margin requirements.

Regional Coverage — South Africa

Lead business development across all South African provinces and industries.

International Coverage — key focus but not limited to Tanzania, DRC & Zambia

Develop and execute a structured market entry and growth strategy for dredging

solutions in Tanzania, DRC, and Zambia, leveraging Atlas Copco Group’s existing in-country presence and Rand Air’s regional network.

Build and manage in-country agents or distribution partnerships where direct presence is

not established.

Ensure regulatory compliance for all tender submissions.

Manage regional travel schedule efficiently across a large, complex geographic portfolio.

Key Account Management

Develop and maintain senior-level relationships with decision-makers (Engineering

Managers, Environmental Managers, COOs, Procurement Managers) at priority mining,

water utility, municipal, and industrial clients.

Act as the primary commercial interface for all key dredging accounts, supported by IPR’s operations team.

Ensure client satisfaction and contract renewals; proactively identify upsell and cross selling opportunities (Rand Air/Atlas Copco).

Market Intelligence & Strategy

Monitor the market procurement pipeline and position IPR’s SlurrySucker as the reference solution for dam desilting ahead of formal RFP issuance.

Provide regular market intelligence on competitor activity, pricing trends, and new market opportunities in South Africa and the international markets.

Contribute to the company’s annual sales planning and product development roadmap.

Tender & Proposal Management

Lead the preparation of technically and commercially compelling tender submissions for

public and private-sector proposals.

Ensure all submissions meet applicable compliance requirements for public sector tenders.

Maintain an accurate record of all active tenders, proposal statuses, and contract

awards in the company CRM system.

Experience

Minimum 5 years’ experience in technical sales, business development, or key accounts

management in the mining services, water management, pumping, or dredging sectors.

Proven track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets in a technical B2B environment.

Demonstrated experience selling to mining clients (at Engineering Manager / COO /

Procurement Manager level) in South Africa; experience with Tanzanian, DRC, or

Zambian mining clients is a strong advantage.

Experience with pump, dredging, or water management equipment is highly advantageous; candidates from related mining services industries (dewatering, tailings management, environmental services, fluid handling) will be considered

Technical Knowledge

Working knowledge of tailings storage facility (TSF) management, mine water

management, and the regulatory environment governing TSF integrity and mine water

compliance in South Africa.

Understanding of dredging principles, slurry handling, and hydraulic pump applications

at a level sufficient to credibly engage mine engineers and environmental managers

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications for pump and dredging applications.

Competencies

Self-motivated and entrepreneurial, able to manage a large geographic territory independently with minimal supervision.

Strong consultative selling skills, ability to diagnose client problems and propose technically credible, cost-effective solutions.

Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Strong numerical literacy, able to build and present ROI and total cost of ownership

(TCO) arguments comparing rental vs purchase options.

Cultural agility and sensitivity required for effective relationship-building across South African, East African, and Central African business contexts.

High travel tolerance; role requires approximately 40–60% travel, including regular

international travel to Tanzania, DRC, and Zambia.
