Butchery General Assistant

Job description:

The Butchery General Assistant is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Butchery Department by ensuring shelves and displays are well-stocked, products are correctly merchandised, and all hygiene and food safety standards are maintained. The role also involves assisting customers and supporting the department in delivering excellent service and product quality.

Key Responsibilities:

• Merchandise and replenish butchery products according to company standards.
• Ensure displays are neat, attractive, fully stocked, and correctly priced.
• Monitor product quality, expiry dates, and stock rotation using FIFO principles.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene within the department.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, health, and safety regulations.
• Assist with receiving, unpacking, and storing stock.
• Support the preparation, packaging, and labeling of products when required.
• Assist customers with product enquiries and provide excellent customer service.
• Keep cold rooms, display fridges, and work areas clean and organized.
• Report stock shortages, damaged stock, and maintenance issues to management.
• Assist with general departmental duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:

• Grade 12 (Matric) advantageous.
• Previous retail, merchandising, or butchery experience will be beneficial.
• Basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices.
• Good customer service and communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and product presentation.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Physically fit and able to handle stock movement.
• Reliable, honest, and hardworking.
• Willingness to work retail hours, weekends, and public holidays.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
