Confectioner - Specialty Cake Decorator
Job Description:
A Confectioner with a specialization in cake icing and decorating. They are responsible for transforming plain cakes into visually marvelous and delicious works of art.
This role requires a deep understanding of baking techniques, artistic creativity, and a meticulous attention to detail. The focus is on crafting beautifully decorated cakes that not only look impressive but also taste delicious.
Job Duties:
1. Cake Preparation:
- Prepare cake batters according to specified recipes and measurements.
- Bake cakes to perfection, ensuring even cooking and ideal texture.
2. Icing and Filling:
- a variety of icings, including buttercream, fondant, ganache, and royal icing.
- Apply icing evenly to cakes, ensuring smooth surfaces.
- Fill cakes with delicious fillings, such as fruit, custard, or creams.
3. Cake Decoration:
- Use advanced techniques like piping, fondant sculpting, and airbrushing to create intricate and visually stunning cake designs.
- Incorporate decorative elements such as edible flowers, figurines, and sugar art.
4. Color Coordination:
- Ensure precise color coordination in cake decoration, to match the clients-specified color schemes and aesthetic preferences.
5. Quality Assurance:
- Inspect finished cakes to ensure they meet quality standards, both in appearance and taste.
- Rectify any imperfections or issues promptly to deliver a flawless product
6. Equipment Maintenance:
- Care for and maintain decorating tools, such as piping bags, tips, and airbrushing equipment.
- Ensure all equipment is in good working condition.
7. Inventory Management:
- Monitor and manage inventory of cake decorating supplies, ensuring necessary ingredients and materials are always available. By alerting the inventory/stock control manager.
Key Performance Areas (KPA) and Key Performance Indicators (KPI):
1. Quality of Cake Decoration:
- KPA: Ensure the artistic and visual quality of cake decorations.
2. Flavor and Taste:
- KPA: Maintain the flavorsome of the cakes.
3. Efficiency and Productivity:
- KPA: Efficiently manage cake preparation and decoration processes.
- KPI: Number of cakes decorated per day, adherence to delivery timelines, and waste reduction.
4. Inventory Control:
- KPA: Maintain an organized and well-stocked inventory of decorating supplies. By reporting any shortages to the inventory/stock control manager
5. Food Safety and Hygiene:
- KPA: Ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
6. Innovation and Trends:
- KPA: Stay updated with the latest cake decorating trends and techniques.
7. Equipment Maintenance:
- KPA: Ensure the proper functioning of cake decorating tools and equipment.

Qualifications:
- Formal training in baking and cake decorating from a culinary school or equivalent. Or Trade tested experience.
- Strong artistic and creative skills.
- Attention to detail and precision.

- Knowledge of food safety regulations.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for client interactions.
Pay: R10 000,00 - R15 000,00 per month
