Job Description: Carer for Special Needs Home
Location: Cape Town, South Africa
Job Title: Carer for Special Needs Retirement Home
Reports To: Home Manager/Supervisor
Job Summary: A compassionate and dedicated individual is sought to join our team as a Carer for a retirement home in Pinelands. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality care and support to residents with various physical, emotional, and intellectual disabilities. The role requires a patient, understanding, and empathetic approach to meet the individual needs of each resident.
Key Responsibilities:
- Personal Care:
- Assist residents with daily personal hygiene tasks, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Ensure residents' comfort and dignity are maintained at all times.
- Health and Well-being:
- Monitor and support residents' health and well-being.
- Administer medications as prescribed and keep accurate records.
- Assist with physical therapy exercises and mobility support.
- Emotional Support:
- Provide emotional support and companionship to residents.
- Engage residents in conversation and activities to promote mental and emotional well-being.
- Daily Living Activities:
- Assist with meal preparation and feeding, ensuring dietary requirements are met.
- Help with household chores and maintenance of a clean and safe living environment.
- Activity Planning and Participation:
- Plan and participate in recreational and therapeutic activities suited to the needs and interests of the residents.
- Encourage social interaction and participation in group activities.
- Communication and Documentation:
- Maintain clear and accurate records of care provided, incidents, and observations.
- Communicate effectively with residents, family members, and other healthcare professionals.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with other carers and staff members to provide comprehensive care.
- Attend training sessions and staff meetings as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Education:
- Minimum of a Matric or equivalent.
- Relevant certification or training in caregiving, nursing, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience:
- Previous experience in a caregiving role, particularly with individuals with special needs, is highly desirable.
- Experience in a residential care setting is an advantage.
- Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for caring for individuals with special needs.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Basic knowledge of first aid and emergency procedures.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and assisting residents with mobility.
- Stamina and physical fitness to manage the demands of the job.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position with flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- The role involves working in a residential care home setting.
