This position covers the health and welfare of the cattle both in the feedlot and on backgrounding. The responsibility of the hospital worker is the detection and safe handling of sick cattle and the treat according to company protocol.
Responsibilities (including but not limited to)
- Inspecting assigned pens in feedlot/backgrounding daily as scheduled for sick animals
- To accurately identify and diagnose sick or injured animals
- Pulling and/or taking cattle to the hospital pen
- Treat sick animals according to company protocol
- Take the temperature of the animals as per company protocol
- Do follow up checks on sick animals as per company protocol
- Sorting and moving of cattle in the feedlot
- Gathering loose cattle and putting them back into their pens
- Checking water cribs to assess whether they are working and cleaning them if necessary
- Clearing feed cribs and filling hay racks
- Participate in the general movement and weighing of cattle
- Assist with the loading and offloading of cattle
- Opening up of grass for high pressure grazing
- Cattle Processing
- Valid driver’s license
- Must be able to communicate (oral/written) effectively in English
- Basic computer skills
Interpersonal relationships
- Have a high level of social contact
- Communicate face-to-face discussions on a daily basis
- Work as part of a team
Physical working conditions
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods
- Significant physical abilities include: (a) lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling, (b) near/far visual acuity/depth perception
- Must be able/willing to work in adverse weather conditions
- Exposure to dry, hot, dusty, cold or rainy conditions
- Exposure to fumes and/or airborne particles
- Noise level is mild/ moderate
Work performance
- This position is classified as general/ physical work
- Accurately identifying sick animals, in order to prevent monitory loss to company
Pay: R6 072,00 per month
Education:
- High School (matric) (Preferred)
